Okay, I save my money pretty well, been saving for 2 years. I got a really good job, my truck is paid off all the way, and I have absolutely no debt. My family wasn't rich at all, I worked for everything I got and didn't get any handouts or silver spoons. I got my own apartment and have a nice samsung 1080p 46' lcd tv and ps3, wii, xbox360, so don't need any of those. My girlfriend and I broke up last week, went out for almost 3 years. So I'm pretty much free to do whatever.. I need to get out and live a little, I need to change my routine... so I need some ideas of something fun to do or stuff to buy. I got 2 weeks vacation coming in august.. I was thinking of a cruise maybe.. thoughts?

Give it to a charity of your choosing and/or go help out with the charity itself. The most satisfaction I've ever gotten is when I helped people who really needed it. Feels awesome. :)

If you have no pressing needs, why not save it? Especially in this dire economy, you never know when a stash like that could come in handy.

I've probably spent about 5-10 grand or more on her alone over the past 3 years... girls are expensive; especially when I paid for absolutely everything.

I already have 2 retirement funds going right now, I put 5% of each paycheck(pre-taxed) and the goverment matches the 5%, then its put into an account and then put into stocks. Then a regular retirement fund.

I was thinking of a cruise maybe.. thoughts?

Kasceis18

Ultimately, I'd say save it...if you live in the USA. Seriously. I wouldn't spend any great amounts of money right now. But...a vacation wouldn't be bad, however, in your case. Sounds like you've earned it. Airline tickets are pretty cheap right now. Where do you want to travel?

I would either A.) Buy the custom drumset of my dreams (which would cost around $5k) or B.) Go on a fantastic vacation.

Or, you could be lame and invest or save like a boring mature person.

Yes, because saving our income is going to alleviate a recession. Spend a few K, then invest the rest. A 401k, an IRA, and a savings account will only get you so far. If you become really serious about investing a portion of it, I would contact an investment firm and discuss the option of investment in foreign markets in the long-term. That's what I would do if I had the money..

Gotta go with the guys suggesting investing. Maybe not right this moment... but this may well turn out to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to turn that 15 grand into much, much more. There's something you need to keep in mind - if you don't know what to spend money on, you shouldn't spend it. Spending for no good reason is a great way to ruin your debt free existence, and whatever you buy isn't going to provide you much fulfillment, since you didn't really want it to begin with. So keep saving. Sounds like you're doing well at being different (in the good way) from the majority of young people out there.

Considering market history, after these sharp downturns, the upwards spikes average in the 200-300% range. That $15K could turn into $30-45K in a couple years. Aside from buying property, the best thing to do with money is to invest it, especially when you are young. The more you invest and the earlier, the earlier you get to retire.

Wow now. I was only 10 or so. That would be 9 years ago. My parents were in charge of what we would do on the island. I believe we were on Maui. I know we visited some part of the island that was considered to be a big deal. One of my favorite memories was being on a smaller ship for about 30 people and having dolphins jump in front of us before we reached a destination where we did some snorkeling.

We visisted Hawaii (main island) when I was hree but I don't remember it. My parents told me that they left me in the car when I was sleeping just to go get a better view of the ocean from some spot and I woke up and freaked out. My barf full of strawberries was everywhere

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Edit: IF you would have invested just $1000 two weeks ago when the shares were selling for 38c You could have made $4000 when the stock went up to $1.68 just last week. Think about how much you could have made with $15000.
