The same logic can be (and usually is) applied to Jesus.
Then this really isn't a topic asking if confucius exists, rather a topic asking if every famous extremely old person was realJesus did exist. It's just that back then he was a like a then-day Houdini.bobabanwatch the family guy movie much?

Then this really isn't a topic asking if confucius exists, rather a topic asking if every famous extremely old person was realConfucius has been documented in many texts. However, it is not really important if he did. Historians are not sure to what degree Laozi existed. What matters is the philosophy that is attributed to him.
Jesus, on the other hand, if he didn't exist, then Christianity would have a problem.
Philosophy versus Religion. Philosophy is important for its theories and ideas, rather than any particular person.
The question is not "did Jesus exist?", the question is "was Jesus the son of God?" (I say yes)Jesus was a historical figure. We might as well debate whether Julius Caesar existed.PannicAtack
Other than the fact that the existence of an emporer is much more documented than the son ofa carpenter, I agree. The important question is the divinity of Jesus.

Jesus was the carpenter, he is supposidly the son of God who is technically a Builder/CreaterI don't think his existence is being questioned, as multiple sources have confirmed it, but rather his status as the son of god.

That is correct. however, like jesus and MANY historical events and figures, there isnt' a single contemporary historian who confirms their existence.[QUOTE="pageiszepplin"][QUOTE="muthsera666"][QUOTE="PannicAtack"]The question is not "did Jesus exist?", the question is "was Jesus the son of God?" And being Joseph's son, he would learn his father's trade.

But my point that Jesus was the son of a carpenter was right...

Yup. Jesus of Nazareth was the son of Joseph, a carpenter, so he would be a carpenter.
Historically, there's no contention as to the existance of one Jesus of Nazareth. The issue of contention is Jesus' divinity as the Christ.

Which is rather pointless to argue, as everyone will simply believe what they want to believe. The only point in arguing is to make yourself look like a pompous jerk. >_>
Do I exist, or am I just a figment of your imagination? :okornholio360
No offense...but I'd prefer to use my imagination for other things.

In islam we believe jesus did exist. he wasnt the son of good becuase god does not have a father/mother/son/daughter and jesus was taken up to the heavens and not cruicified
Why does it matter? A_New_Life
It's the same thing as a person claiming Lincoln never existed, or Caeser Augustus is a made up character.

It's just another way of someone shoving religion down people's throats.
