What would you do if everything you believed in was proven to be wrong?

I don't know but I know how you can find out... first walk to the end of the road and wait under the tree off to the left. Your looking for a man who goes by the name, "Wadego". Spin around three times and he will appear, he has the answer for you bro
Keep in mind that there's a big difference between belief and knowledge. Beliefs are really things that are more subjective, such as moral values and such. So if I were to find out that things such as the human capacity to care or the passion for discovery turned out to be false characteristics of, well, humanity, I'd be a little depressed and distraught. Even then, it would be much easier than if I were to find out that knowledge and facts were false.
m talking bout everything.
... What do you mean "everything"? I know my hair is brown, where my house is, who my mom is, and what games I have for the PS3. Are you telling me all of the stuff is wrong, or are you just talking about religion?tylergamereviewI'm talking bout everything.
Well some of the things i believe are that i'm not a Newt and i'm not a Goat. How exactly would you prove to me that in one entity i am simultaneously a Neut and a Goat?markop2003... *blinks*... *pets the Neut Goat, hoping that the Neut-Goat isnt a Nude Neut Goat* .... Seriously though this one here is blowing my poor lil mind.

Everything is relative. I'd say, read a bit on Philosophy. "Everything" I believe in is shattered daily when I read the works of philosophers. Like for instance, when I go to bed at night, because my brain isn't perceiving what is going on around me, my world disappears until I regain consciousness. Things that you hold firm to in your life can be changed by a simple idea presented by someone else. That's why I research thoroughly, and believe only after I've decided this what what I think is true. NightEyes7
Sorry, I don't see the relevance of your analogy, but I do think you have a point. Everything we belief in is entirely subjective, so it's entirely possible to have many of our values changed, however much, by even a single event/idea.
I'm not the most open minded person so i'd fight with what i know, but if there was overwhemling proof their side was right, I'd eventually swallow my pride and concede... eventually.
If I believe that something was delicious, like chips, and I was proven that it is not delicious... I think I would accept the fact that the chips are not delicious and continue to eat them. :D
I would change my beliefs to reflect the knowledge gained.bededog
I feel like those two should be separated. Knowledge is based off demonstrablefact. Belief, however, can be a kind of mixture of subjective values and (possibly) fact.

I'll be a jerk who pretends not to notice the playful nature of the post.
1) "Delicious" is a relative term, it cannot be "proven".
2) Eating chips after having no reason to is crazy.
3) Chips are delicious , so the situation you presented is impossible.
4)

Sorry, I should have elobarated. What I meant was, I believe the the world is here, always. This computer I'm typing on, is a computer. It looks and feels like one. I believe that we experience everything through our senses. At least, I used to. Then I watched Schudinger's (sp?) cat experiment, and now I'm unsure about whether or not things are really here when we aren't percieving them. Like the old "tree falls in the forest question".Depends, if you mean religion-wise then I wouldn't be too upset, Buddhism teaches us that no religious canon, ours or otherwise, is 100% true. We don't get violent over our beliefs and we don't impose them on others.
If you mean reality then I don't know, reality is what you make of it, people make their own realities all the time. For example: studies show incompetent people tend to think everyone is just as IF NOT MORE incompetent than they are.

So... everything is relative... to what?

Penguins. Or human experience.
Experience, and perception of that experience.&
