So I work at McDonalds and I have an 8 hour overnight shift from 11pm to 7am and I was wondering the best way to stay awake through it all. I had an overnight yesterday as well and by 4am I was basically dead and completely useless.

So whats the best way for me to stay awake? I had 3 redbulls throughout that overnight and was completely burnt out. I got home from it at 8am and fell asleep right away. After 12 hours of sleep I'm still really tired, any advice? Should I stick to the caffiene?

Realize that there's a big chance of you getting raped.  That'll keep you on your toes.

bring something to do. Anything portable will do. If you have a portable movie player or something, bring that.

There really isn't much advice. You have to be able to adjust your sleeping patterns to work late night shifts...also, if you slept for 12 hours today and are tired it is because you over slept, sleeping that long always makes you feel like trash...At the store i work at i have had to stay overnight before (it is a retail store, not fast food)...there wasnt work to do though, we had our alarm system replaced and our floors waxed so we just needed someone to be there over night...it was actually pretty cool, the peopel there were told to call me (intercom) if they needed me so i sat up in the staff room watching a few movies (i also brought a ps2 and played a bit) and then did some inventory in the back, with my ipod...then at about 5 i called someone to bring me coffee and breakfast, we had breakfast and just after we finished my manager came and i went home...8 hours doing basically nothing making more then double my wage (i had already worked 40 hours that week, so i was being paid overtime, plus anything after 10pm we get a 4 dollar an hour shift premium)...good times.

Try the coffee, if it doesn't fatten you up.

Stick your foot in a bucket of ice every time a customer comes up, it should work when you're really tired.

Probablly won't work that well...McDonald's stay surprisingly busy over night (i have friends who used to work there, and we would go there randomly throughout the night sometimes, sometimes just to hang, sometimes for a drink, etc)...2am is last call at most bars, so you get like a 2-3am bar rush, a bit throughout the night and then start getting breakfast at liek 5...it's scary how many people eat mcdonalds all night long, they stay pretty busy.

I think this relies on the fact you're bare foot...do you really want to walk bare foot in a fast food joint?

Only if you have to pick between that or falling face forward on it.

Try running barefoot across a burning grill every few hours, that should keep you awake.

YEah, this overnight I'm gonna adjust myself. They're usually really fun and all since there's no customers and you can screw around all you want, but by 4am I was completely dead and was screaming at the drive thru people to turn their headsets off, haha.

And I live in Canada, our Drive-Thru is 24 hours. I guess I should take advantage of the free food there this time and go with our dutty coffee.

Ewww don't resort to eating McDonalds...Although i will admit they have pretty good coffee (it is usually so strong it hides the poor quality...i like my coffee strong so it does the job for me.
