I just did it and the hiccups went right away.
Drink something while holding your nose closed!
Anyone know any other methods to get rid of them?

I've already done that and it does work...
I don't really need to drink something though, I can just gulp and stop breathing for 10 second... It works!
I have my own sure-fire cure.
Breath in and hold you breath for 5 seconds. But keep your mouth open, so as to use your throat to stop the air, and not your lips.
Then breath out and hold your breath in the same manner.
Rinse and repeat about...three or four times. Works a treat for me.

No way! :o
You guys have it ALL wrong.
Two words: PEANUT BUTTER.
Sometimes, even if I just THINK of Peanut Butter, my hiccups go away. It's like a crazy mental thing.
Hiccups are caused by your diaphram twitching, so can someone explain how drinking water while holding your breath helps? Everyone always says that, and when I try it and still have hiccups,I'm "doing it wrong". Penguin_dragon
Hiccups are cured when you're not thinking about it. It is to do with the diaphram convulsing but it continues because you put thought into it, so doing a complex task takes your mind off it and therefore the hiccups go away.

By that logic, couldn't I just stop them myself, since their under my controll? This would actually explain why some people actually do stop their hiccups in their own way, as it would be the result of them thinking that whatever they're doing is a cure, when in reality it is there subconcious that is controlling them all along. Though I highly doubt my logic makes any sense I will try this the next time I get hiccups.

You can actually, you just have to clear your mind of thought. The problem with setting out to stop hiccuping is that you can just end up thinking about hiccuping even more than when you started. Kinda like how Marshmellow Man came about in the first Ghostbusters film.

So basically, what you're saying is if I think about hiccuping, it will just happen?? I am not hiccuping at all after thinking about it. Sorry, but your theory is wrong.

How can the water go to your stomach if you are upside down?
The same way it works while weightless. Things aren't propelled into your stomach by gravity, but rather by the muscles in your digestive tract.

I never said that's how it starts, I said that's how it continues. Like stress, if I think about stress I don't become stressed, but thinking about stress while stressed continues it so. And it's not my theory, it was on a documentary I watched.
