So today was my first day at my new job in a local supermarket. I am a blocker, and when I tell you this job is boring I REALLY MEAN IT. 6 hour shifts of walking around moving items so that they are visible on shelves. So your pretty much doing nothing. Its torture. Anyway anyone else can top this?

I actually did the same job in my student years. Had the same feeling you have, absolutely horrific job.

Look on the bright side, at least you get to move around and stuff. Imagine if you were a secretary or had a job where you had to sit at a desk for hours. Now that'd be torture :|

I wasn't aware that was enough responsibility to merit an employee. Sorry to admit this, but you've got it pretty bad.

I'm a cashier and I still think it's boring...though my store calls moving items to the front of the shelf recovery. It's a small general store so It's not too bad i guess.

Hey, you're getting paid for doing nothing, better than working in the fast food. Cleaning the grease filled drains always give me nightmares.

Maybe you can listen to your musicor talk with the other employes there? If they're you're own age you'll probably have a good time.

I had a really boring job but thanks to my fellow workers being really fun it was a great job for me.

I feel your pain, had a job with the exact same job description a year back except my shifts were 9 hours instead of 6, quit within the first month. Good luck with the job lol.

Man I was working on a store in my internship, we had 6 hour days in total and about the first 4 hours we would unbox items to the shelves and the rest 2 hours it was usually just the same as OP. Yeah it was pretty fcking boring even though we only had about 2 hours of it.

This, and you actually get paid for doing that? Jeebus. I could do that in my sleep. I literally do that all day around the house, I arrange all the items on shelves or in cupboards or the pantry into proper lines so everything is visible and even. I do that for free. You get paid. Be damn grateful, you have the easiest job ever. Find a way to make it fun.

I work in a supermarket and I hate having to do face-up. I had the choice of face-up or Register 1 for an hour and I chose Register 1. Register 1, mind you, is 10 registers from the nearest operator, it was 7pm and the town show was on so NO ONE walked in the shop that hour. I was just standing there, though it was better than face-up.

At least you are 'out and about' in the store, and can interact with people. One of my jobs in high school was in a collectibles store (little statues and the like). NOBODY EVER came in there. Boring as heck. Although, it WAS high school so I was stoned half the time anyway.

GazaAli

A practical advantage they have is that all of them have a pretty decent temperature so whether you're working in winter or summer, you're in heaven (especially in summer when the heat is unbearable - at least here).

But I just like them in general. I guess just like many women like to go around clothes/shoes shops and just look at the storefronts, I like to wander around the corridors of supermarkets. :P

Not really. Can handle boredom though. Use to get payed to stand in line for tickets for like 4 hours. Sometimes I'd bring a book but other times would just wait and do nothing during the time.

There is a job that I might apply for that basically does that. Stocking shelves, etc. I want a job where I basically unload trucks and stock shelves.

I don't see the problem, you are getting paid to do nothing. You walk around and occasionaly move an item, sounds super easy. Did you expect working to be fun? At least you don't have any responsibility or have to deal with annoying customers.

Sounds like an OK job to me. I'd rather do that than stay out in the heat during summer or do some really intensive physical work.

My first job in college was working in the campus post office; most of my shifts were spent running mass mailings through a mail meter machine. Totally mindless, but it gave me time to ponder stuff from classes, so it wasn't too bad, except when the machine jammed.

The most boring job I've had was at a food bank; hours of just taking stuff from pallets and putting it into boxes on a conveyor belt. You're basically performing a function a relatively simple machine could do.
