I got a summons in the mail a few weeks ago, and it was scheduled for tomorrow. As per instructions, I was to log on to their site and see if my jury number was called. Well, my number was 5271 and they called 5-5263! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :D :D :D!!!! I also got summoned backin 2001,but Idid have to go to court and wait to be selected. They pulled my number, andI was thinking I was going to have to serve, but theyreleased us because the case was settled out of court.

So, anyone else ever dodged jury duty? If not, what was it liking serving?

My dad said it depends on the case. The one he went to he found very interesting, though.

It was actually boring to serve...and the jury system doesn't seem to be the best. I was ona civil case.

I've successfully 'dodged' 3 times now. The system in place requires one to call in after 3 PM the business day before to find out if your panel is required to show up. I've not been selected 3 times. *knocks on wooden pegleg*

Yeah, we have to call in or log on to the site after 4pm prior to the day of court. But yeah, I'm scared that I may not have the same luck the third time.

Served once, and got dismissed once.

Dismissed on a manslaughter trial because I told them I think everyone has a right to own a gun, and the defense dismissed me.

Served on jury where a lady slipped on a stepping board (or whatever it's called) on a truck, slipped and broke her legs, and severely injured her back. The step happened to be icy, go figure. She sued the dealer, the maker, and a few other people.

I was in teen court once. We usually do real court cases against teenagers, but instead of deciding whether or not he's guilty, we decide on a punishment(s) for him, because he goes to teen court having already pleaded guilty. There is a real judge, real criminals, real bailiff, real everything, and all of them (Including the lawyers) are teens, except the judge.

We did a fake murder case once. I was in the jury. When we went back in that room, everybody immediately said "Guilty" even though we never talked about it. They just wanted to leave. It made me sick. I tried to argue, but they just forced me to agree. The judge commented on how crappy they were afterwards. There is no justice in this country anymore.

Im still to young to do jury duty, but im curious, what happens if they ask you, can you say no if you dont want to, or do you have to go unless you have a real excuse? Or in your case they just dont pick you. Also is there certain requirments to be placed on jury duty? 'Cause I think it would be pretty cool to be able to be involved in one of those cases.

Besides laughable? She ended up getting nothing. What was shocking to me is that a few jurors actually agreed with her.

You have to go, it's the law. If you don't, the judge can hold you in contempt, and have you arrested, jailed, and fined.

Most of the time you'll be a reserve juror, where you will have to log into the computer or call in at a certain time of day to see if you need to show up the next day to be questioned.

This is BS...I am 20 and have to go to work and college and I get picked for jury duty. Yet someone I know at work is 24 and she just works part time with no school or anything and has never got selected for jury juty. They must just pick people that are going somewhere in life, cause a lot of bums at my work that are older than me have never been selected. To get out of it, I should walk in there and say to the judge: "So that Hitler was a nice guy."

A thought occurs. My mom was in jury duty last year and I'm pretty sure she wasn't allowed to talk about the case outside of the trial. :o

I've never heard of a gag order on a jury that lasted beyond the duration of a trial. If it's something the court is serious about, the jury will be sequestered for the duration of the trial.

Jury duty is not done in my country. :Djakeboudville

In Soviet Russia, jury duties you.

Anyway, I know that Jehovah's Witnesses can be excused from jury duty as it's actually a conflict of their beliefs. My mom gets out of it all the time by writing them a letter saying she can't attend since it's against her religion. I can't use that card, though, since I'm not bapitized.

If I am called and do not have any kind of family to support I will serve on the jury with great pride. I would love to be called up for jury duty, I have always been fascinated by the justice system and its many failings but serving on a jury would make me feel as if I were doing something to make sure the guilty were caged and the innocent let free.

I haven't, but I'm 17. Hopefully I won't have to when I'm an adult. :( EDIT: Or I could always be like Phoenix Wright, but sitting with the jury. Randomly yelling OBJECTION at the top of my lungs.
