Field dress it, get rid of the blood, make sure it has access to air, pluck or skin it, I'm sure you can figure out the rest.

I would just kill it so it doesn't suffer. No one is going to do emergency surgery on some wild animal for free.

Dunno, I guess whoever does come by will just shoot it and brush it off to the side of the road.

I would guess that you should call the local Wildlife and Fisheries department.

You should bring it home with you and give it the proper burial it deserves.

According to the internets, you should either take it to a vet or call the police.

I've never been in this situation (and I hope I never will experience it) so yeah.

I called a bird preservation center and they redirected me to a local vet, the guy said he'd take care of the owl, apparently it has some sort of hemorraghe in his eye.

The best thing to do would be to kill it. There is nothing anyone can do at this point, it is only going to suffer. If I was in your position, I would probably get a crow bar or tire iron out of my trunk and hit it over the head (or, more likely, I would freak out and lose my nerve). The alternative is to bring it home and make it comfortable until it dies.

I dont think running over an injured animal with a SUV could be considered mercy killing.

He's gonna be fine...he has like an eye lession of sorts so the vet gave him an antiinflamatory and left it at the clinic. really I wasn't about to finish the poor guy off just because he hit my windshield...had I run him over that would be a different story.

I went more along the lines of shooting it if it was on the verge of dying. E.g you split its guts open.

How can it be fine? You hit a tiny animal with fragile bones with car. Were you parked when it hit your windshield? I assumed you had actually injured the animal.
