I love this movie and have seen it about 5 times so i'll some it up

[spoiler] Billy (dicaprio) is a kid from a mobster/crime family he hates his past so he becomes a cop the two lead detectives Queenan and Sullivan (whalberg) don't like it at first and thnk it's fishy before they put him undercover to take down Costello (Nicholson) Who is a mob boss guy.  Nicholson also is putting a guy undercover (damon) So it's two rats trying to find out who the other is basically the story continues down this path Damon and Dicaprio start having sex with the same girl and the Queenan gets killed while meeting up with Dicaprio who barely escapes and would've been found out if it wasn't for the fact that the guy who told him the adress to go to was a cop aswell.  Damon gets Queenan's phone and contacts Dicaprio but now he's found out that Costello is an FBI informant and could sell him out so he takes him out to insure his own safety.  Dicaprio goes back to the agency to get paid when he finds the citizens envolope that costeloo had given to the rat than he gets tapes from costellos attroney proving damon to be the rat.  With his ID erased from the databases of the Boston PD he holds Damon at gunpoint and arrests huim then gets shot in the face by another rat in the BPD then the rat shoots a black cop that dicaprio knew and said that it was just him and damon now damon shoots him in the head and goes on with is wife but now his fiance knows what happens and leaves him and he's alone and miserable he goes home where whalberg who found out he was a rat after he got queenan killed by putting tails on him so he could find the rat and the whole Dicario and 2 other guys dead scandall so he shoots him and the end keep in mind this is very linear way to look at it though [/spoiler]
