Dejavu actually happens because well...heres an example:

Say you walk into a familar room that you have never EVER been in before this is because your brain hasnt stimulated it yet so when your brain does stimulate it you feel like you have been in the room before.

I think what you're trying to say is that it's when your brain interprets something using short-term memory instead of long-term memory. I heard it was something like that. It could be the other way round.
