Alot of the stuff they do hurts. Turns out that falling 10 feet and landed on your back cant be faked, although they usually use something like a table to break the fall.
AT WM25 Shawn Michaels did a backflip from the top of the turn buckle to the outside of the ring and hit nothing but the floor. Was brutal.
So the result is fixed, but stuff like Chokeslam from inside the ring to outside the floor(like 2meters high), Superplex, Sweet Chin Music and Figure Four actually still hurt then? I mean there's no way a 200pound guy jumping on your stomach doesn't hurt.It may be fake but they still do real things that hurt like hell.

So, for example... when they start limping around after the opponent targets their "weak knee". Is that real or fake?Alot of the stuff they do hurts. Turns out that falling 10 feet and landed on your back cant be faked, although they usually use something like a table to break the fall.

[QUOTE="pete_merlin"]So, for example... when they start limping around after the opponent targets their "weak knee". Is that real or fake? Seriously? I's totally staged. No athletic commission in the USA would allow someone to blatantly injure someone like that in real life.Alot of the stuff they do hurts. usually fake as they like to act like they have a sore knee so the opponent then works on it. But sometimes, and when i say sometimes i mean rarely, you will see a wrestler injury themself in a match and then continue regardless. Mankind for example wrestled with a dislocated shoulder, hardcore holly broke his arm but refused to stop and continued his match. Even recently, The Undertaker's entrance went wrong and he was briefly set on fire causing burns on his chest and melting his glove to his hand but he refused to shorten the match, he actually wrestled in a 30 minutes after and performed quite well.
Even though wrestling is fake, people seem to forget just how tough these guys are. They are massive gym freaks. I wouldnt pick a fight with em lol
Because it's not so much fake as it is live stunt work. They do as much as they can without hurting one another (unless they're mad or jerks and working stiff) but since it's not a movie they can't put on wires or increase padding to make the drops and falls hurt less and so inevitably they get hurt. Quite a bit actually.
As proven by the rampant amount of wrestlers dying from using too many painkillers and opiates from back/joint/muscle pain.Because it's not so much fake as it is live stunt work. You should check out the Botchamania videos on youtube. They are funny as hell, really make the accidents and mistakes look stupid.

Some moves can be pretty easily faked (have you ever seen that gif of Scott Steiner "throwing" Christian into a turnbuckle?), but a lot of it is pretty real.
When doing a move like a superplex, both men have to cooperate and the one getting suplexed has to make sure he lands correctly so it doesn't hurt as much. It's a lot harder than people give it credit for.
When doing something like the Sweet Chin Music, a lot of times HBK kicks the side of the jaw instead of the face or chin which I imagine hurts a little less. I assume the guy getting attacked tries to start falling down a split second before he's actually kicked, too...the kick would still connect and looks painful as hell, but it's more of a graze like that.
I think submission moves like the Figure Four Leglock or Sharpshooter are pretty easily faked.
As for the chokeslam outside the ring...that's gotta suck. There's usually a little padding outside the ring to help brace the fall, but it still looks like falling from that high up wouldn't be fun.
Indeed
In wrestling, there are spots and there are bumps, A spot is a planned action and a bump is a planned action that will hurt.

I watched a wrestler named Kevin Steen take A.J. Styles' "Styles Clash" move off of the edge of the ring mat down to the floor in front of me. It was crazy, thrilling, and fun to watch but also incredibly scary when you see a guy rolling in front of you with his eyes registering nothing at all. Needless to say the guys in the ring (thank god it was a tag team match) did a series of generic moves to give him time to recover from his TKO status.
[QUOTE="pete_merlin"]So, for example... when they start limping around after the opponent targets their "weak knee". Is that real or fake? Fake. When Jeff harding, or whoever accidentally jump from the top ropes and landed squarely on their back and injured himself, the guy took a few weeks off to recover. Any superstar who hurt themselves in wrestling will of course take off to recover. you cant fake going through a table or falling off a ladder

Accidental? Also the stage is designed to reduce impacts afaik. All springy and bouncy. .... *runs off to go play on it* bouncy bouncy bouncy!Jaguar_Shade
This is actually not true. It's a popular misconception about pro wrestling. While some rings are springier than others (WCW's old rings), the WWE rings are notoriously stiff. Granted, it's not as rock hard as concrete or anything, but its by no means the cushy trampoline that people make it out to be. People are always surprised by just how stiff the WWE's rings are.
In fact, you can get some hint of that just by listening to the sounds a ring makes in a WWE match on 5.1 speakers. Anyway, about the TC's question: lots of things hurt in pro wrestling, it just doesn't hurt enough to be seriously injuring. A lot of what they do is basically "painful, but not crippling." For instance, ,having the Big Show slap you as hard as possible across the chest. Hurts like hell, but doesn't cause any real injury. Wrestling is "fake" because the moves are not meant to cause real injury. That doesn't account for the pain.
A lot of the "hardcore" wrestlers like Mick Foley or Terry Funk have notoriously low pain responses/sensitivities. In many respects, they're freaks of nature.
Lol, wrestling results are scripted however everything that they do in the ring is real, obviously the ring provides a little bit of support for the wrestlers to make certain moves less painful. Recieving a proper chokeslam for example on the ground or grass is alot more painful than in the ring, but you will still feel it. It helps the wrestlers sell moves better, selling is when a wrestler makes a move look more painful than it actually was. There is alot of acting that goes on in the WWE aswell so obviously they will feign certain injuries for storyline purposes and effect in the ring. It's half and half really, people get the wrong impression about wrestling at times and presume that there is no pain involved at all when in reality its just the results that are scripted.
it's fake because both wrestlers knew that it was going to happen well before hand. When a fight is well rehearsed I no longer consider it a real fight.
pro wrestling may be fake, but it's still extremely dangerous and requires a ton of athletic ability.
but you could say the same about tight rope walkers. It doesn't mean it's not awesome, but the outcome of the fight is predetermined.pro wrestling may be fake, but it's still extremely dangerous and requires a ton of athletic ability.

Wrestling moves being fake doesn't disturb me. The problem is the greasy big men in thongs grappling each other from behind are real. That's disturbing.Pariahdox

no doubt. i never watched wrestling for the sake of the fight, i watched it for the theatrics. the WWF days were some of the best years in wrestling history. The Rock and Stone Cold FTW.kidsmelly
I totally agree with you.
Sometimes they gotta go through some damages to make it look real. It makes it more entertaining I guess.

you mean steroid freaks :PIt was a botch, plain and simple.
For more botches check out Botchamania on Youtube. Pretty all great botches, both in terms of moves and promos, are chronicled there.

Sweet Chin Music probably doesn't hurt, if you notice HBK always slaps his leg to make it sound like he makes contact but he usually doesn't. Most of the moves (with the exception of punches and kicks) however are real and very painful.
Brock Lesnar's botched shooting star press will always stand out to me, as far as WWE botches go. How the man kept his wits enough to finish the match and how his neck was completely uninjured, I will never know. It's no wonder the guy's now the UFC Heavyweight Champ.Paladin_Kingi agree. the man had the lights knocked out of him and he still continued the match
