Yes it's a sad, sad day. The doctor decided to pull all 4 of my wisdom teeth while I wasn't looking and here I am making this topic with a mouth full of blood and gauze. Being put to sleep is actually kind of nice when they do this kind of thing. Right before they gassed me I asked the nurse if I would wake up half way through, she said the doctor would make sure that didn't happen. What a relief that was. My throat is soar from the breathing tube and I can feel the spots where they stuck my full of anesthetic. I've never been treated in a hospital/operated on until now, kind of a neat experience.

Any OTers have or have to get their wisdom teeth pulled? If so share your experience with all of us so the rest of you can hope you never get yours done.

I've had 3 wisdom teeth pulled at once. I was awake for it. All I can remember now is the exquisite pain sensed from afar, the tremendous pressure, the sound of teeth creaking in bone as they were slowly unmoored from their homes, the smell of bone burning as they cut away small pieces of my jaw to make it relinquish my teeth, and the week-long recovery afterward.

Worse pain of my life. And this includes a clavical that was broken twice.

I went in thinking I would just get them looked at and the dentist was like "oh no." Got all of them pulled that day, the bottom two were so decayed that they had to drill them into quarters and pick them out piece at a time. Also had somewhere in the range of twenty novacaine shots and the dentist's first drilling began before it had completely set in. I stopped him of course but my god did it hurt. I had to have them all two or three of them stuffed cuz they left huge holes in my gums. I ate some mashed potatoes back home and they were too hot and I burned my gum holes. Thank heaven for vicodin.

When I went to get the gauze removed and a check up I had slight dry socket in one gum hole. It took a while but I fully recovered and am really happy to have them out. The bottom teeth both had exposed nerves and I had been living on anbesol for months.

Had all 4 pulled with local anesthesia (in Central America), the dentist warned me of an acute "pressure" when extracting them, when I started crying from the pain after the first tooth the dentist had to pause and re-inject my gums to make sure the anesthesia was working. On the upside I didn't get the chipmunk cheeks most get :)

Local anasthesia would have been fine to. No point in sleeping through that. It's not that painful. I've had 6 teeth pulled with local, didn't feel a thing.

My dentist gave me the option of being to put to sleep or just anesthetic. I thought about the time a month back when getting a cavity filled, they didn't use enough anesthetic and twice I had to tell them to stop to put more in. Like hell if I wanted a repeat of that, especially with so many teeth this time. Also my lower wisdom teeth were impacted which made it a bit worse.

I got mine pulled about three summers ago. I was 14. I got them out pretty early. It really wasn't so bad at all...just a bit uncomfortable for a few days.

Haven't yet. I think I'll just go with anesthesia...did that with every other tooth I've had pulled (for the record, I've had over 15 teeth pulled, so...)

I've had a throat surgery before, afterwards I was puking up blood and really couldn't swallow any food or drinks for a week. The doctor said I was pretty normal for the surgery, so I'll take his word for it. I'm just glad I'm able to swallow my own spit again though.....

It only took me a second to loose my virginity. As soon as it was in, that was it.

Yeah, all 4 a few months ago. It was nothing. The bad stuff happened when I got home, namely, I had hiccups for 3 DAYS STRAIGHT. You do not understand how terrible that is. But its really not that bad, as long as the tube does not irritate your esophagus.

I got mine out a few years ago too. My advice is to sleep with your head propped up. You won't swell as much then.
