Okay, so I had part of my report done at school so I e-mailed it to myself in an attachment and downloaded it and opened it up on my pc at home. But I never saved it as a certain file name, when I was finished I just clicked on the save icon in Microsoft Word for some reason, but now I cant find the document.... Does anyone know how I can find it??? I have to turn it in tommorow!!!

Reformat your computer.SSCyborg

try to save it again (but don't) and it should go to the folder you saved it in. Or, look at the title of your paper and then use the search function and narrow it down to word documents.

it HAS to have a name, even if it's Document1, Document2, Document3, etc.

Just open up word. There should be a list of your recent documents under the file tab.

But I never gave it a name, it was downloaded to a temporary folder i guess, and I was typing in it from there and then just clicked the save icon.

If you just opened it from your browser instead of saving it then opening it, it's probably in a temp folder somewhere or in your browser's cache.

I'd say it has to be there somewhere. Okay, click search, then "documents". Now click "use advanced search options". Then in the field under "A word or phrase in the document:" this of a word or phrase that was unique to the paper you were writing and put it in that field. Now try searching again.

can you open the program you used to write it, write something down there and go to save as and then you might be able to see where it is saved to and you can find the other thing

DId you try it? If you don't specify a new save location it saves over the file in the email. I've done that before.

Search for *.doc (all .doc files) and sort by when it was modified, maybe it's under another name. If you're using firefox it might have saved it in the cache which won't be searchable in the windows search like IE because firefox saves the cache in large files instead of folders. Get a cache viewer extension and look through it (if you did enough writing to make this less work than writing it over.)

Maybe. It was there at one point. I don't know if it could be saved there once you wrote more though. And depending on how much space is allocated for the cache it might have gotten overwritten by more recent web browsing. It's worth a shot though.

it's in a temporary file. I forget where exactly but my sister did the same thing and freaked out. I searched all her computer while including hidden files and it came up. try doing that.

or here's what you could do. open the file from your email, and then click "Save As" you'll see what folder it's in.

Sorry, I think it's gone. Use a flash drive next time

Speaking of flash drives, AM technologies has plenty. That's right, they got the best prices around!

Just visit AM-Techonline.com !

or give them a call at 732 581 5680 ! :D

If you e-mailed it to yourself, it should still be attached to the message in your account (as long as you didn't delete the message). So just download it again, and make sure you remember where you save it!

Yes, when I open the attachment again and click save as, it tries to save to a folder called Temp. I looked all thruogh there but couldn't find it. It should be there though, I am doing a file search in that window now, but it is taking forever.

Do not save it to the temp file, if your using a computer lab, it will just be deleted when you log off. Either save it to a flash drive, or just save it to the desktop and move it to my documents.
