I went from Ubuntu back to windows (Ubuntu was cool but I need windows for school purposes) but the disc I purched through the collage was just an upgrade disc...didnt cost me much so im not out by alot, but because i didnt have a previous version of windows on my system the key code wont work and i have 30 days to get a legit version of windows 7. I found this one, but I wanted to know if this was an actual copy of windows 7 and will do everything the Home Premium version would do. I ask because its seems way to cheap to feature the full use of the home edition

Here it is.

http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Home-Premium-System-Builder/dp/B002NGJO4M/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1294773554&sr=8-5

I really appreciate the help. I dont wanna spend the 200 bucks it cost here at my college for windows 7

I've seen traps more legit than that. However I would spend 200 bucks on traps so you should do the same about your problem.

I would ask in the pc hardware section since they often include this product in their builds and surely know the exact differences between it and the usual 200 dollar one. Sorry i couldn't be of more help :(

With an education discount you shouldn't have to pay too much more than that anyway. Though if you can find a copy of the Windows 7 beta you may be able to install it and then install your upgrade copy of Windows 7 over top of that. I realize the beta has expired by now, but it still lets you boot up for an hour or so without forced restarts and after you upgrade it, it'll be a full copy. No idea where you could download the beta at this point, though. I had Windows 7 RC installed on my new PC the other year and then installed an education upgrade version ($40 for Pro) on top of that and haven't had any issues.

Sausage-man was messing with you.
That looks like a completely legitimate website (amazon.com) with a perfectly legitimate copy of windows.

If you want a legitmate copy, you have to either spend the money, or get in on a Microsoft deal that gets you either a discount or a free copy.

I believe that System Builder versions of Windows are as legit as any - you just won't get any pre-loaded drivers or the retail box.

Technically, you can only use the System Builder's version only if you plan on selling said PC. Newegg has the full version of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Full for $190 plus $2 S&H and comes with both a 32bit and 64bit disk. Can't beat that really. Use the 64 bit version and be able to use more RAM than a 32 bit version.
