Just realize that if you do mess up reading it, nobody will care about it. It's just reading a paragraph, not anything big like dropping a cake or ruining a project.

Be like Morshu-give no credit if people laugh at you.

Really, unless you get bad marks for reading terribly, read like an android.

Just think that most of them are more than likely going through the same thing. There was actually a poll stating that more people fear public speaking than death itself. That outta tell you something.

This.

Also, practice makes perfect. The more you speak aloud/read in class, the better you'll be. Which, in turn, could help you relax.

Both of these people are wrong. People will judge you if you can't read well under pressure. If you don't want to be thought of as dumb, practice reading out loud to yourself.

I developed some sort of problem regarding this as well. I couldn't read more than 2 sentences without losing my breath or exposing to the class that I was nervous which is embarassing. Not just standing up, but being in my seat. You have to realize the exact reasoning behind the problem, and work on something. I found that by volunteering to read rather than being expected to allowed me to practice speaking. I still haven't recovered from my problem, but I think it's slowly, slowly going away.

Deep breaths.

I used to get really nervous when I was at school and couldn't read in front of class. Suffering from a mild stutter didn't help either.

I found it easier to speak in small groups of around 5-10 people. I'm fairly confident in that situation, but infront of a large group my stutter gets far worse.

^Not very helpful

Breathing slowly through your nose and out through your mouth can sometimes help to calm you down.

I had this problem throughout freshmen and sophomore year. I'd get extremely nervous if I had to do anything outloud to the class. I don't know what happened, but over the summer (I'm a junior now), this fear just...disappeared. What I mean is that I tried to overcome the fear, but I didn't expect it to go completely away as it did. My advice is just to figure out what part of it you are nervous about and work on that. I would think about all the times I got nervous. I realized that I was really wasn't nervous of anything...I just was (maybe it's because it's carved in your mind that public speaking should make you nervous). I thought through everything. I didn't care if I did anything stupid - most people did worse things, and no one cares anyway. I didn't care that everyone was looking at me - so what? You have to realize that all of the things you are "nervous" of are stupid, silly things. So what if you mess up when you are reading? Like anyone will care. Just like you, they are trying to get through the day, and have better things to do than make fun of that stuttering kid in class. So basically what I'm trying to say is, think about what it is specifically that makes you nervous. Then just think about how to overcome that. P.S. - A great way to overcome fear of speaking in front of the class is to be more outgoing to your classmates. If you talk to them, it is extremely unlikely that they will care if you do something wrong. If you are that quiet kid who doesn't do anything, and then you stutter in class, what do you expect them to think?

Well, I just think: "every one else has to do the exact same thing, so how can they judge me" That is, if you are worried what people think of you. Words are just words in the end.

personally I really get into reading aloud because I like to try and make my voice come out in a way that sounds good. Not like a character, but in a smooth sort of way. Perhaps you could try focusing on that instead of focusing on who you're talking in front of, and it will be easier.

What makes you nervous exactly? Is it the prospect that you have to speak in front of people, or its the classes you are taking you have problem with? Maybe you are afraid that you'll end up with a bad grade?

I'm like that with my 5th period class. It's like I'm hanging out with a totally different group no where related to me. I can't stand being at a place where it is not diverse.

Read more often. The more you do it, the less nervous you will be. I used to get nervous before presentations but now Ive done that many I just fly through them.

Well, trying not to repeat what everyone else has said, another thing you could try is maybe laugh about it? Don't take it too seriously, it's just reading, people don't care about you messing up as much as you think they do. Try and crack some jokes or laugh at yourself, I think it helps.

Is it only when you read or whenever you speak in front of people? Sometimes I feel weird reading something but I'm fine presenting something or reciting a poem.
