I watched that movie like 3 time and I still never got it. To me is was a very dark movie sugar coated(no pun intended) with kids stuff. I mean what I never got about it, was what was Wonka's problem? Why did he go all crazy... Why did he only have the half of everything in his office? What were they trying to say about him, and what was the message of the movie?

read the original novel. it gives a lot more info than the movie, it's also a bit more twisted too.

Have you tried reading the book?

The message is pretty clear though. Be a good kid.

The first movie I think the message was easier to see. All the kids, except Charlie, represented forms of greed and lust.

I've read both books, and watched the movie, not the remake though... Willy was just getting too old, and he needed to find a good heir to his chocolate throne...

Yeah. Despite the fact that it had Tim Burton AND Johnny Depp in it, who both pwn epically, I thought the remake was terrible (well directed, BUT the factory felt dead and just wasn't as engaging or faithful to the book). :?

The message is that rich people can do whatever they please... and that you go insane if you are too antisocial.
