So, this store set up shop in my local mall about ten years ago and I was pretty happy about it; however since then it's really gone down hill. I live in a town where it's big enough for two Wal-Marts, a Sam's Club, a Target, a Walgreens but no real entertainment stores (other than the one FYE) No Best Buy, Circuit City whatever. So this allows the jerks a FYE to jack up their prices to ridiculous levels, and my mom of course thinks if she were to buy something through Amazon somebody would steal her identity (I know they would'nt, parents...)

So I went to Target yesterday to get the new Slipknot album, they only had the regular edition, so I got angry, but there was nobody around to help. It was on sale for $10 though so I was like "Fine, that's a good deal." and i bought it. Being the crazy person I am I also had to go buy the Special edition, which is only avalible at FYE. So I go to their website and it lists the SE as on sale for $13, awesome! I get to the store and it's on sale for $20, and I'm like serisouly? but they always over price stuff anyway. So I was like fine, it'll be the cheapest place anyway and I have the money. So I look around and find an X-files set for another $20.

I take it up to the lady and she's like "Do you own our discount card blah, blah, I'm 40, ugly and work at FYE, blah, it'll save you 5% on your birthday" and I'm like "uhhh, NO" So she's like "That'll be $42" So I hand her $50. She gives me back two bucks. I'm like "Uh I gave you $50, there was a $5 folded in half" because that's how I put it in my wallet for some reason and I'd just counted it out. And she says, "NO, you gave me $45" and wouldn't even open the register and look. I wanted to punch her in the throat, but came here and vented about it instead. In any other store I just wouldn't go back, but like I said, there is nowhere else to go.

Anyone else as annoyed as me with this store? Anything I can do about it?

Well, sucks that you don't have an independent music store where you live. You could have asked for a manager at the time and counted the register, but since you left, there's not much you can do now unfortunately.

My friend works there, so I don't really have a problem buying CDs at the store he works at. I won't give any other FYE my business, though.

Dude you should have called out a manager and had her count out her drawer, she would have been over $5 and then you could have demanded something in return. Now you have donated $5 to their evil empire!

I didn't think anyone bought anything at FYE, it's horribly overpriced and the staff was clueless at the ones I've been in.

FYE is notorious for jacking up their prices to outrageous extents. Nothing new, my friend. Do what you can to avoid it, and should a similar problem arise in the future, make sure you don't leave without having a few choice words with the manager about it.

Wait, why did you give 5 bucks? If you gave 50 and it cost 42 total, not having the 5 would still have been 45? ehh I might have missed something.

Anyways, I don't like FYE too. It's prices really are ridiculous.

weird, I went to one today for one of the first time in a long time, got three used dvds in great shape for a great price, teh guy knew were everything i wanted was, and he didnt hassle me about discounts or cards or what not, and they had a bigger selection then Best Buy and Circuit City for films, especially seeing how those two and Wal Mart didnt have the film I wanted and of course FYE did. Guess i just dont go enough.

Maybe it's just my local FYE's, but here the attendees just sit in the corner doing nothing.

I remember browsing there many times, wondering how they stayed in business when 95% of their CDs were at least $5 more than at an actual music store.

I had a $20, 10 and 2 fives. But it was $42 and I only had a 10 left in my wallet so I just gave her that. She should've just handed it a 5 back.

I'm thinking he gave the cashier a two $20's and a $10. The cashier gave him change for a $5 not a $10. But I don't think it was explained adequately. Who folds their money before putting it in their wallet?

I've been gipped like that in the past too. But I personally love f.y.e. All of the malls near me don't have cd stores. In my opinion, a mall is just a cd store with a bunch of other stores around it. It hate the fact that they took f.y.e. out of my malls.

I understand your frustration. I live in Chicago where there are about 100 media stores, so you'd think they would keep their prices to the point where it's competitive. Nah, they didn't a ****. CDs are released at an insane $18-$24 whereas they only cost $10-$14 at Best Buy just 10 minutes away. Same for Walmart, 10 minutes away, Walgreens might stock it at the same $10-$14 range, 5 minutes away, etc.
Movies? $28 sometimes instead of the average $17 price at Best Buy or Walmart. So about 2 years after it was put there, it went out of business. The only reason I shopped there was because they always had $3-$5 c|assical Music CDs.
For other genres, it was cheaper for me to pay the $4 to go all the way downtown to Tower Records were they had them at dirt-cheap prices depending on the CD and release date.
I hate FYE.

I don't care for FYE either. They wanted $15 for a Fight Club poster, it's a piece of friggin' paper. The only good deal I've ever gotten from there is Gladiator Extended Edition for $7, after buying something else.

yeah i cant stand FYE either, the dvds and cds are insanely over priced, one thing that i hate about my local fye is how they arrange the dvd section.

whenever i go there i usually go to the dvds and check out the horror section (being a horror buff and all) and the horror section is right next to the "Adult entertainment" section, so whenever i go there im embarest someone is thinking "lol look at that kid browsing through the pornos" this one time i could hear two chicks giggleing at me....

There's one of those stores in my mall. Most of the prices are ridiculous, and there's a Best Buy right across the street from the mall so I don't usually go there.

The used section is always nice. I got the (kind of)new Nine Inch Nails live DVD for $7 and it's in perfect condition. It also has some good, hard to find CD's in there for pretty cheap sometimes, and it's always exciting to find those.

I prefer not to buy from FYE, but it's the only music-oriented store in the area, the old Tower Records (which had a great selection) closed down. :(

FYE is overpriced, with very poor choices. they sell ten dollar movies for twenty, and all albums for 20. simply not worth it.

I never knew that FYE's overpricing was so wide-spread, I thought it was just local. Now I really don't like them.
