Well I know I'm overweight, and probably obese (well according to a BMI online calculator I' am). I don't want to develop a hearth condition, get high blood preasure, or become diabetic like some people in my family. Several years ago, 3 to be exact, I went on the atkins diet, and lost nearly 70 pounds! The problem is afterwords I gained all the weight back, and then some. I just turned 20 a few months ago, I'm 5 ft 10 inches, and currently weigh 234 pounds. I remember when I got down to 172 pounds several years ago and I felt great! I could fit into a size 32 pants, wear form fitting cloths, and had girls talking to me all the time (I was the Italian stallion then, lol). This time around I want to lose weight for myself, I'm sick and tired of it. I have only 2 pairs of pants I can currently fit into, both are size 40. I have tons of other clothes I can't even wear due to being overweight. So here's what I'm going to do.

I'm going to Tae-Bo once again. This worked last time, I was in Karate for 10 years ( was sorta fit then), and enjoy the martial arts style that Billy Blanks does.

I'm not going to do the Atkins diet, but rather eat 3 meals a day, or 6 small meals a day. with no pizza breaks/junk breaks in between.

I'm going to do Tae Bo every other day, and lift weights in between (to tone muscle)

I'm going to make a thread every Friday night on here and post about how I'm currently doing. In the end I hope to post a before and after shot (don't worry, I'll have clothes on,lol)

I know I can do this, I just need to stay motivated, and I figure starting the first of the year is a good idea.

You know what's another good idea: blogs. Well, not a good idea necessarily, but a good substitute.

Same here. I kept saying "I'm to stressed out, well time to grab that double meat/double cheese meatball sub from Subway". No more of that for me, although those were very very good.

I used to be overweight. I cut back to one meal a day, and exercise. Dropped 25 pounds. It may not be the right way, but it worked.

haha.  i would always say Im too stressed as well, although lifting weights is a good stress reliever.    I remember sitting in the dorm thinking to myself "I am too busy to go work out"  and 5 mins later i would find myself shooting pool or fooseball.

I lost weight last year. I was about 220lbs and got down to 170lbs by changing my diet and going to the gym 4-5 times a week for an hour. I'm at 190lbs right now but it's muscle weight not fat weight. :P If a person really wants to lose weight they can. Hope it works out for you. :)

I'm the same way dude. I plan on going on a diet starting today. I'm about 5'9 and a few minutes ago weighed in at 267 and I'm squeezing into size 40 pants. I feel like if I lost weight I'd be a good looking guy. This is a new year for me. I'm going on a diet and taking more classes in school and I'm gonna get out of the lazy rut I've been in since I got out of high school a few years ago.

Fad diets never work... that is why they are called fads.

You want to lost weight? The two keys to losing weight and being healthy:

Proper diet and exercise.

Proper diet: Watch your calorie intake, do not eat more you can burn off. This is the major cause of weight gain. The best kind of diet is low in saturated and trans fats, refined sugar and salt. This means avoiding those "treats" that everyone likes. It may make you feel bad you do not get to snack on your favourite chips or candy, put it will pay off in the end.

A proper breakfast is the key to losing weight and being healthy. It has to be high in complex carbohydrates and fruits with high levels of vitamin C and B12. Usually a simple whole grain cereal with added "nutritional" elements fulfills the first aspect. A piece of fruit like an orange or a glass of orange juice will give you a load of vitamin C. The brand "Tropicana Pure Squeezed" gives 120% of your daily recommended intake in one 250mL glass.

For lunch, something simple like fruit, vegetables and a sandwich should be fine. For dinner, a balanced meal that contains elements from all food groups is best.

The best way to choose foods is to choose light foods. They are usually better for you and make you feel better after eating.

Now exercise. You do not need to jog or run or do anything straining. Walking or simple calisthenics is all you need. You just need to get your heart rate up and be able to burn off some calories.

SNACKING IS YOUR BIGGEST ENEMY! AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!

If you cannot avoid snacking, just snack on some vegetables or dried fruit or nuts. You can even brush your teeth which helps to take away the craving for food.

I have lost over 20 lbs and MANY extra "spare tires" in about 6 months following this routine. I am looking a ton better and feeling much better about myself. No fad diet, no fad exercises. Just simple diet control and exercise.

Plus, if you are able to fit it in, sweets and treats are always allowed, you just have to keep them small. I like high % cocoa chocolate, it gives me that endorphin rush I am addicted to.

My new year's resolution is to get a girlfriend and a good paying job.

I hate going to the gym, it's liked canned exercise. I prefer to go into physical activities where the exercise is secondary, playing a sport is always good. I have some weight to loose as well, changing a few things around helps as well as calorie watching and drinking lots of water.

My dad did the Dr. Bernstein diet. He lost over 20 pounds in the last couple of months. Luckily for me i have zero weight issues (which for working out, doesn't help... hello supplements weight gain).

But good for you. The older you get the more you realize you have to do things that are positive for your body. Awesome first step.
