You realize that the Dems were the ones in power this term, right? The president is little more than a figure head. Pirate700
Yeah but it was his decisions that made us become what we are today.

Again, if you are talking about the current economic crisis, that was brought on 100% by the Dems. They are the one's that approved all the bad loans, etc. I'm not sayig Bush was a great pres or anything but the blame is heavily misplaced.[QUOTE="Pirate700"]You realize that the Dems were the ones in power this term, right? The president is little more than a figure head. Decisions like signing those bills that Congress must first approve?
He was and will always will be the worst person to ever be in power Period.Heroldp813
People said that about Nixon too, don't get ahead of yourself.

Shhhh. You can't use truth and logic to the 16 year old political mind of Demspot. You realize that the Dems were the ones in power this term, right? The president is little more than a figure head. Pirate700That is just wrong. Just straight-up, completely wrong.

At the time, Nixon most definately was. :?That's not my point, he said Bush will always be the worst person to be in power.
I said they said that about Nixon, now they say it about Bush. What's to say there isn't something worse in the future?
 Keep thinking that.Pirate700The federal government exists as a singular body separated into three branches, all of which have very specific and very limited powers. If one branch dominates another, the entire federal system collapses. Hence the term "separation of powers". Not sharing of powers. Not appropriation of powers. The separation. The idea being that the supreme court has a certain purpose, which is checked and held to account by congress, which is check and held into account by the President, as well as the supreme court, who also check the power of the president. That's the way the government works. It's not a matter of opinion. It's a fact. To say "the president is just a figurehead" is absolutely incorrect. Fact. :|

Oh i see what you mean. That's a good point. :)That's not my point, he said Bush will always be the worst person to be in power.

if the president and the mayority of congress are from different parties some really bad moves are made because the congress mostly wants to make the leader look bad for the decisions that they conciously make. I think they do it so people think the the president did a bad job so the next election they probably elect a president from the other party.KrzyJoeNot really. Congress is traditionally not as partisan as other legislatures like the british parliament, where everyone is expected to act along party lines. In the US, a congressman is accountable to the people in his congressional district who voted for him/her. If he does a bad job, he's out of office very quickly. If a congressman simply does whatever the party wants him to, or works only to undermine the president, he wont last very long at all. Congressmen generally act independently for what's best for their district, except in broader issues of legislation which will affect the whole nation. It's up to the President to work with congress and set up a good working relationship to ensure that the two powers are not always in conflict.
Everyday americans (and europeans for that matter) with a sense of entitlement carried too much credit card debt and signed up to mortgages they couldn't affort.
Mortgate brokers sold mortgages to people they knew couldn't affort them in the long run, convincing them with short term reductions in payments.
Banks packaged these mortages into financial instruments (CDOs) and sold them.
The financial services authorities failed to properly identify the risks of these instruments and categorised them as low risk.
Investment bankers traded these instruments and earned large bonuses accordingly.
Investment banks provided poor long term incentives for sustainable banking, by offering large short term bonuses.
------------------------
The causes can be categorised as:
GREED: everyday people lending beyond their means, investment bankers making short term profits on bad credit.
IGNORANCE: poor financial education of everyday people, lack of understanding of the risk of CDOs
INCOMPETANCE: terrible risk evaluation by financial authorities, poor incentive systems for employees by investment banks

George Bush is at best a dangerous idiot, but to blame the current financial crisis on him alone is small minded.

By putting ALL the blame on the dems you are also heavily misplacing the blame. Was it mostly their fault? They were mostly responsible for the housing crisis, which was more like the last straw in a troubled economy, but it was not the main cause.[QUOTE="Heroldp813"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]You realize that the Dems were the ones in power this term, right? The president is little more than a figure head. Is that why this was said to happen more than 10 years ago? So it's all the Dems fault right? Please Log In to post.
