we should all install a cute little white apple then.
every time i start my computer I can't do anything and a error message comes up saying ' this applicatioin has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem'. What do I do?spark5050
Use the Recovery Console from your XP CD and then use the EXPAND command to copy a replacement for wininet.dll to \Windows\System32Boot from the Windows XP installation CD-ROM (make sure your primary boot device is the CD-ROM drive;change in the BIOS to do that),then use the EXPAND command: expand d:i386wininet.dl_ c:windowssystem32wininet.dll (where d:=your CD-ROM) Then type EXIT and restart the machine.

Well, that was your first mistake...
Seriously though, I don't know how the Vista CD is set up, but I imagine you can extract that file the same way you do the XP version.
I mean, if you got time on your hands and want to do a full re-installation, then go right ahead. But I think you can just pull that .dll off the disc and plop it into your windows directory. Try googling for that .dll error and look for Vista-related solutions.
You should be able to pull it right off the install disc.
I'm not familiar with Vista, though. So good luck.
