You want a sad movie? Watch Ladder 49. That's sadder and has real people in it. Also, you can't watch sad movies with a bunch of loud mouth friends around constantly laughing and making fun of whatever is going on. You have to be by yourself or with someone that will shut the *(&# up so you can get the full affect of the movie. The same goes for scary movies, accept you also have to watch those in the dark.

I knew what it was going to be before I clicked on this thread. I honestly didn't think it was that sad. Don't get me wrong, it was sad, but I've seen much worse. Fantastic film, though. One of the best war films I've ever seen.

Yes Grave of Fireflies is really sad.

But I think that Barefoot Gen is a lot sadder - I've seen this movie over 50 times and I still get teared up when watching it.

This movie is sad and all...but I can't take anime seriously ya know?

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, anyone? Only movie I've ever cried while watching. Just the reality of it of how he has to live with the decisions he makes while he was a soldier in World War 2. Pretty intense.

considering the amount of Japanese attrocities during the war, why would I hate myself for being an American after seeing a movie about the firebombing of Kobe?

Not to mention the movie is much more anti-Imperial Japan and anti-war than anti-American.

The beginning and the end are sad. Thats it. Honestly I was pretty bored throughout the whole picture.
