Not at all, I taught myself the basics when i was six years old. The only thing thats difficult is taking the time to practice.

Learn acoustic before electric.

You should learn all the chords and learn how to change chords quickly, then move onto electric.

Its best to start with acoustic, cos acoustics are generally cheaper, so if you drop out its not as much of a loss, and in my experience the strings are harder to push down and strum, so you should build up strength.

If you enjoy acoustic, move onto electric. I would recommend an ESP guitar, theyre awesome.

I'm sort of self taught, but a mate has helped me out with alot of stuff, but being totally delf taught shouldnt be that bad.

it's basically impossible. pianist would have a thing or two to say right now, but basically you cannot teach yourself proper technique without an instructor. as in, it's impossible.

You can't learn the technique by yourself.

plus the strings on an acoustic are generally higher on the neck, and the strings are tougher, which makes it an easier transition from acoustic to electric

dont listen to the people sayng you can't learn on your own. Im self-taught with a little help here and there from experienced guitarists/musicians.

if you have the heart to want to play, and enjoy it, you will learn. pratice daily and make sure you learn good playing habits before you settle into your own style. this is important.

This. I'm self taught also, with a bit of help here and there. But like Martyr said, once you do get going, don't let bad habits form.

Don't know how intermediate you can be by learning yourself.
