It might be wise to take a trip there before you decide to move. Good idea, but I need a job first though.. my job right now only 25 hours a week ain't gonna help me with the trip.[QUOTE="Dogswithguns"][Better be poor in Texas or homeless in my town. ]Pirate700
That make sense, I just read about it.. I think I will like North Dakota. nice and cool. You'll find more high paying work in the Dakotas. The energy industry is booming there and they need people.Â

Again, Texas is great but I wouldn't have it in my top 5 states.[QUOTE="Dogswithguns"][Better be poor in Texas or homeless in my town. ]Dogswithguns

I am in California and it sucks, just a crap bowel with no jobs and too many people.
Â
Go for Idaho, thats my dream place to live. Its awesome. Especially if you like clean air, salmon fishing, nice people and just a lovely enviroment. Also is very affordable.

you're probably not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway. Seriously though @op, if you're moving down here, I suggest you have a decent job prospect before you get here, work hard at it when you do get here. I moved down here last year from the Northeast, and do notice most folks here 1.) work just as hard, 2.) are a bit less cautious, and 3.) speak a bit louder. And if you're seriously considering moving here, I hope you are able to tolerate country music.Texas sucks, man..................

I love Cali. Couldnt imagine living in Texas, been there about 15-20 times. People go from their air conditioned homes to their air conditioned cars to their air conditioned offices and back again. At least in Cali I can breathe real air.I am in California and it sucks, just a crap bowel with no jobs and too many people.

You mean smog right? This was taken just down the road from LA.Â
I lived in Texas for 8 years and for the most part I hated it. The people are rude. It gets so hot you can't do anything until night time. Everything is brown and dead and flat for most of the year.

Sounds like Cali too.Â

That stinks.. where I'm gonna go? Texas so dry and too hot.. North Dakota too cold, there are lots of jobs but the rents are really high if you can even find one.[QUOTE="WhiteKnight77"][QUOTE="Pffrbt"]

Austin is dead center of Texas pretty much, not a lot of snow. Most Texas snow is going to be in the panhandle. Anyone whining about the heat is a wuss, it sucks around 1-4 but most people are at work during that time anyways.
What kind of jobs/what field? I was in San Antonio Texas and the temperature was just too ridiculous for me. Terrible being stuck indoors until around 8 oclock at night.Pittfan666Actually a factory, warehouse, machine shop. my old job(big huge work place) that moved to Victoria, Texas, almost 3 years now: where no union, no state tax, and low paying that's why... the extreme hot of Texas, that's the bad part about it. oh man, guess I'm gonna just stay in my crappy town then.

Two of the top 3 states are oil states. That should tell one something.

Remember that it is easier to cool off than it is to warm up. I don't care how hot it is, I will grill out regardless. I can drink beer while I am doing so if I have to.Â
I heard off shore oil jobs pay like $5000/month no experience required, sleeping quarters and food provided, that's what some guy who worked on offshore rigs told me.lamprey263North Dakota 80,000 a year.. pretty good but the housing shortage, no place to rent.

I've heard some Halliburton run operations provide housing and food services but at a steep price, but they might pay more.
Texans are awesome, Texas is generally a shithole though.
All states have their nice places, of course, Texas just has very, very few of them.
If you do move, get your license plates changed ASAP, they loooooooooove pulling over out-of-state folks.

you need to specify Southern California and Northern California. Â They really need to be two states, imo. Â Anything north of Santa Barbara (and including SB) is freaking awesome for the most part (except for the central valley, all ag there), south is LA and, well...yeah.
San Diego is nice, though.
People in N.Cal are generally nice, lots of hipsters in the bay area though but otherwise not too bad.
