Well, first of all I hate moving. but I'm tired of my town having no jobs hardly.. So Texas a good Idea? I heard it's too hot during summer. how about life styles? ..Are Texans the likable? Lovable?

Maybe North Dakota better?

Texas is a great place to live if you can get past the heat and humidity. It's not that high on my personal list though.

It might be wise to take a trip there before you decide to move.

You'll find more high paying work in the Dakotas. The energy industry is booming there and they need people.

I'd at least do some good research first to make sure it's for you. Again, Texas is great but I wouldn't have it in my top 5 states.

I am in California and it sucks, just a crap bowel with no jobs and too many people.

Go for Idaho, thats my dream place to live. Its awesome. Especially if you like clean air, salmon fishing, nice people and just a lovely enviroment. Also is very affordable.

you're probably not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway. Seriously though @op, if you're moving down here, I suggest you have a decent job prospect before you get here, work hard at it when you do get here. I moved down here last year from the Northeast, and do notice most folks here 1.) work just as hard, 2.) are a bit less cautious, and 3.) speak a bit louder. And if you're seriously considering moving here, I hope you are able to tolerate country music.

I love Cali. Couldnt imagine living in Texas, been there about 15-20 times. People go from their air conditioned homes to their air conditioned cars to their air conditioned offices and back again. At least in Cali I can breathe real air.

Take a trip around the state to see for yourself, a bit silly to move somewhere without seeing the different areas first :P Lower cost of living than many states, good job market, good weather depending on which part of the state you move to (Don't go south or east.. humidity is beyond unbearable) What kind of job market are you in? Do you have a degree? Different parts of the state may be better for you than others depending on the answers to those kinds of questions.

I lived in Texas for 8 years and for the most part I hated it. The people are rude. It gets so hot you can't do anything until night time. Everything is brown and dead and flat for most of the year.

I'd look west or east then. Oilfield pays really well without a degree, lot of hours though.

Austin is upper area right? it might get slow sometimes during winter, like melted as soon as it hits the ground better than just plain hot.. there were couple of Mexicans from Texas moved in my town b/c too hot over there. not sure what town of Texas they were from though.

Austin is dead center of Texas pretty much, not a lot of snow. Most Texas snow is going to be in the panhandle. Anyone whining about the heat is a wuss, it sucks around 1-4 but most people are at work during that time anyways.

Actually a factory, warehouse, machine shop. my old job(big huge work place) that moved to Victoria, Texas, almost 3 years now: where no union, no state tax, and low paying that's why... the extreme hot of Texas, that's the bad part about it. oh man, guess I'm gonna just stay in my crappy town then.

Remember that it is easier to cool off than it is to warm up. I don't care how hot it is, I will grill out regardless. I can drink beer while I am doing so if I have to.

I've heard some Halliburton run operations provide housing and food services but at a steep price, but they might pay more.

Texans are awesome, Texas is generally a shithole though.

All states have their nice places, of course, Texas just has very, very few of them.

If you do move, get your license plates changed ASAP, they loooooooooove pulling over out-of-state folks.

you need to specify Southern California and Northern California.  They really need to be two states, imo.  Anything north of Santa Barbara (and including SB) is freaking awesome for the most part (except for the central valley, all ag there), south is LA and, well...yeah.

San Diego is nice, though.

People in N.Cal are generally nice, lots of hipsters in the bay area though but otherwise not too bad.
