How do i convince my mom and dad that its a good idea to get a dog. We have like 1.5 acres of land, and i would take it out when it needs to go and wash it and stuff. My dads all up for one but my mom says NO, do you think if i get enough money i could get her to change mind.

I already have a cat that is our neighbors but always comes to our porch, it just had 3 little kittens about 1 week ago. Dogs are mans best friend not cats.

One thing I learned when I lived with my parents, is that it's next to impossible to convice mother to agree with getting a dog.

The closest I got was when I was allowed to dog sit a cute little palmerian(sp).

I wanted a dog for a long time, never got one.  The best thing is to ensure that you are doing everything you can to show her you will take full care of the dog.  This means ensuring all the rest of your chores are done on time, your room is clean, etc....

Lol, no animal smells unless you don't clean it. I've seen tons of cats that smell horrible, because their owner doesn't care for them properly. It's the same with any animal. Cat's in my opinion are boring, and less affectionate than a dog who craves attention constantly. A cat is a good pet if you're looking for a pet that is very independent, and you don't want to spend hours with it.

Um, try going to a local shelter. You MAY not get a puppy (shelter dogs can vary from puppies to senior dogs, and the latter is quite common, please don't let that deter you) but the dog comes with their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and even microchipped just incase he/she gets lost. Plus, shelters are 1,000$ less than a typical dog you'd find at a breeder who doesn't provide most of that stuff and a vet check. Shelters depending on which one can range from 50-200$.

Just my opinion.

Cats are easier in some ways. You don't need to take them out for walks. You don't need to give them a lot of attention, because they don't seek it much. They're just very independent, which makes it easier to care for. Dogs, you have to bathe, take out for walks, take out to use the bathroom (unless housebroken and even thats 'ew') and they generally want more attention than any cat ever would. I say rabbit is hard to care for as well. They're like a weaker dog. But I'd prefer a dog and rabbit over a cat.

If you are concerned about vet bills, mutts are generally much healthier than most purebreads.

Compromise and get a Jack Russell. Theyre inside and outside dogs, small and easy to look after with the character of a big dog. I have one and id never get another breed again.

Jack Russell's are really fiesty, and cute. That's true, they are inside and outside dogs, even though all dogs need some type of exericse. They are very energetic, so it'd be wise to let him/her expend the energy.

No, no you don't. You're deluded. They poop, they pee all over everything, puke on stuff, chew chair legs, borders and other furnishing when they aren't busy shedding hair, barking at the mailman or other people that wander past the house EVERYDAY!!

Every animal poops, but you can train them to do it outside. They only puke when theyre sick, like humans. Cats are more likely to chew on/scratch chairs etc. Only some breeds shed hair. They dont just bark at the mailman, they bark at EVERYONE that comes to your house :D
