It depends on what you want to create, I learned pretty much by just using and working it out. For things like sig making - which I will guess is most relevant - there are plenty of tutorial videos on YouTube that are worth watching.

It's not like after 10 tutorials you automatically are a lot better.. It takes a long time to get better and the best way to do it is keep making sigs, which is what most people start with especially on forums. Just keep following sig toturials and you will pick up some techniques and continue to get better and better.

Mess around. I never used tutorials, unless I really needed to learn something, which was very rare an occasion.

You can't just learn, you have to be born with the talent. 8)

J/K, give good-tutorials.com and gamerenders.com a try to get you started.

Just read tutorials to learn the very basics, and then just practice. You'll improve over time.

Man i started about 3 years ago. I started just messing around editing photos. Then I became better with diferent tools filters. Figure out what you want to learn and google it for a tutorial. Once you learn the basics it becomes easy.

Just figure out what you want to doMake sigs, edit photos?

www.pslover.com is a good Photoshop tutorial

There were 5 Photoshop classes at my school, the only way to get real good with it is to practice. It'll take a long time but eventually you will understand it more and more and if you're creative enough you'll create some pretty good stuff.

Anyone who tells you otherwise isn't that good in the first place.

So at 11 years of age you knew what all the filters did, all the brushes, you knew what the swatches were and how to organize them, etc?

Yeah, I wasn't a complete idiot at the age of 11. Photoshop isn't that hard to comprehend.

i think it's best if you find the basics tutorial first. don't just look for a certain tutorial yet. what you need to do is look for the tutorial that talks about the basic tools of photoshop. then and only then should you go for something intermediate, then after a while of getting used to the program, go for something advanced. good luck.

Ok maybe that stuff's not hard to deal with, but to truly make something original that looks neat and flawless is not easy. That's what I think of when I hear someone say "I learned photoshop", because anybody can sit down and mess up a picture with it. Stuff that I've seen and done at the art institute people wouldn't believe was made in photoshop.

Are you saying an eleven year old can't make a reasonably good looking piece of art with Photoshop?

If you don't know Photoshop, just learn the free software Gimp. It basically does everything Photoshop does, although the interface isn't quite as intuitive. They are working on that "problem" though (although many people like the interface just fine once they get used to it). Gimp is going to be to Photoshop what Firefox now is to Internet Explorer. (Maybe that is a flawed analogy since IE is free, but you know what I mean.)

Reasonably good looking? Sure it's possible. Snapshot quality? Yeah I would bet against that (in NORMAL cases I'm sure there are a few who could whip up some impressive stuff)
