Hi guys. I realized a few days ago that I need to stop playing videogames. Videogames make me sad (can't explain why but they do). The only videogame that doesn't gives me trouble at all is World of Warcraft. The problem is that if I stop playing videogames I can never be an assassin on renaissance italy (assassin's creed) or a super hero on a asylum (batman: arkham asylum). I mean, I really want to stop playing videogames but my nerdhole just doesn't lets me. Now you guys must be wondering what a nerdhole is, a nerdhole is something invented by me, that stands for a hole in your heart that you must cover with nerdy things. I used videogames but that was hurting my nerdhole, so I need something else that to keep me distracted of videogames. I've tried music and books and they work ocasionly but sometimes I watch shows and I hear my friends telling their videogame adventures and I get a little bit jealous. It's not only that I need to stop playing its because I get bored to of playing those games. I've been playing World of Warcraft for almost 3 years and never got bored... I've played Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood for 6-7 hours and I couldn't play that anymore. It's a weird thing happening with me. The truth is that I love monsters and dragons and dinosaurs and fantasy creatures... creatures those that I can find on games like Dragon Age or The Witcher. I need a little help here.

P.S.: Just found my old Spider-Man comic book collection, I hope it helps. Oh and I am also thinking on collecting Magic: The Gathering cards, it's probably super nerdy but I need my monsters, my dragons and my dinosaurs and World of Warcraft isn't enough :p

Try to find new games or other games you are interested in. Also balance gaming with other stuff including daily life

Sounds to me like you should play some final fantasy. And then watch continous episodes of glee to get you in a good mood.

Just don't give up video games for a girl.

TheHighWind
He's right. If you really want to quit gaming just make sure it is for your own decision and not for some girl with which you may or may not have any future. I love gaming as much as anyone here however I've been "forced" to quit gaming for some time now due to school and work. Remember life is short and you should do the things that you enjoy. BTW, if you plan on getting Magic The Gathering cards, I hope you don't just collect them but actually play the game. It's really fun.

Start lifting weights or biking or something a bit more physical. I guarantee you'll like it after you bust your ass for a while.

my advice is to limit your time playing video games, and get some other hobbies...there's alot more to do other than reading and watching screens!

personally i love model making, Airfix etc, which is pretty nerdy, so it could fill your nerdhole?

take up a sport as well, if you don't already play one. i think boredom is a crime really, there is so much stuff out there to do, not all interesting stuff takes a huge commitment either, you could write letters to a guy on deathrow (an important service i think), learn an instrument, do some of the many many many AWESOME d.i.y. projects available on the internet, set up a hedge cutting business if you live in the suburbs.... i'm just throwing ideas out here (obviously) but my point is that there is literally no end to all the awesome hobbies out there......i wish i had more time. my current hobby at the moment is juggling. a LOT of fun.

TheHighWind: I am not giving up videogames for a girl because right now I am single, although I remember that having time for both wasn't good because I was so addicted to the damn videogames. PleaterDreamer: That's what I have been doing, I've played Rayman Gold that was one of my first games ever and I just grew bored of it in a matter of minutes... the game that used to entertain me for hours. Arad96: I have Final Fantasy IX, X, X-2, XII and XIII. I've played all, and they are great games, but I don't know I can't have as much fun as I did in the past (months ago) Imapirate0202: Im minor, how am I going to get a job? And how would a job fill my 'nerdhole'?

That's what I thought.

If that's true I advise you to play all the videogames you can right now. You'll wonder where all that free time went when you get older.

ForsakenWicked: There was a videogame store on my neighbourhood where a bunch of people joined to play Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering, unfortunately that store closed :( Jer_1: I ride a bike for 30 minutes after dinner every day, can't say it's a good hobbie but it's a great way to get fit and to loosen up your mind a little. Kind of relaxing if you ask me. Jpph: That's the problem, I have a such a damn huge videogame library that I feel that I MUST play the game. I guess my cousin does model making, he has an entire army in his room, plus airplanes... it's scary :P Annihilism: That's the thing, I have friends that were like me when we were 10... I mean they loved to play videogames and now they don't even own a gaming system nor a gaming pc. If they did it, why will I fail?

SolidSnake35: You see, this is not the first time this is happening to me. It happened to me 3 or 4 months ago. I leaved videogames for like 2 weeks and I was plain happy, but then school started and my friends kept talking about how the new X Videogame was cool or that the Y DLC was stupid. I just missed videogames, so I got back and played until now.

That's weird because my friends don't really play games. If they did, I'd probably enjoy them even more.

SolidSnake35: Indeed, the only game I still have fun playing with friends is World of Warcraft. I'm just sick of gaming industry this days you know, maybe the old games might bring some nostalgia back. I feel like I spend my free time on videogames only, I can't remember the last time I saw an entire show on TV or the last time I went to the movies, because of videogames. Maybe with only WoW to play I might loosen myself a little more, maybe if I buy a more casual console I can have more fun. Maybe getting back to the old days of Pokemon, Super Mario and Yu-Gi-Oh will be enough of gaming for me.

Right now I can't find videogames that I find attractive, World of Warcraft and some Nintendo games being exception. I've been on the videogame world all my entire life, I want to know other things. I want to learn how to play an instrument, I want to watch movies and tv shows. I want to read novels and comic books. I want to collect trading cards. I want to play old gameboy games. I want to go out with my friends. I want to play football and ride a bike. I want to live without being addicted to the damn videogames. I just can't live with both unfortunately I get too much addicted to videogames. I am going to miss games that aren't on any other media, like Grand Theft Auto or Duke Nukem Forever. But whenever I feel like playing Assassin's Creed I will just read the book. When I feel like playing Mass Effect, I'll read the comic books. When I feel like playing Batman, I will watch the movie. When I feel like playing FIFA, I'll just watch a real football game. And so on... It's going to be hard to give up on games, but hey maybe I'll buy myself an handheld in a few months and maybe I could more of a casual gamer, instead of a diehard gamer. But until then, I have to cure the sickness of PC Gaming.

It's not about gaming time it's about something in my brain that tells me to download every recent pc game even if they are mediocre.

I just got out of a relationship it's not like i'm going to jump to another one, I even think I might reatach with my ex. But on topic, by nerdhole I meant nerd gap... something that needs a little of nerd love, WoW is the only game I am interested now, but I can't believe I will miss good games..

It's easy. Most of the games suck. Just imagine if EVERYONE made their ownknock off of Mortal Kombat. That's what current games are but replace Mortal Kombat with firearms.

Sound like you just need to get out of the house to me. Gohangout with your friends more, or find some outdoor actvity that you enjoy. I would also suggest picking up an instrument.

My biggest problem on videogames is that I am a little paranoic and I worry too much about the future. I worry about if the next console will be backwards compatible and things like that... videogames make me be reeeeeaaaally paranoic and that isn't healthy. I want to play videogames, but I keep thinking on the future :l

Nope, you can't give up gaming unless its forced at all aspects. Its like a crackhead in detroit with no cops or rehab, you cant get away from it. BUT... you CAN learn to balance it out, and thats what you gotta do. Balance is the key.

You need to reverse it, stop playing MMO's and enjoy other games in moderation. MMOs can become an addiction.

You shouldn't give up gaming because a girl told you to but it sounds like what you need to do is play less and go out and actually do a lot more interacting with friends and also a girl. It'll give you the social that you seem to be missing. Maybe that's why you like WoW because it's social to a point. But that's no substitute for healthy socialization. We ARE social creatures after all despite what some would have you know. A lack of it causes some people to feel sick inside and it messes with your head as well. It's just genetic so you can't fight it.

My problem with console is everything becomes consolidated. Look at Deus 2 & Deus Ex 3. Is that the team choosing a simpler design? Is it the console's inability to render huge environments or does the console gamer prefer a simpler game? One that's scaled down and obvious.

Hmm, that's tough. I mean, I can't say I like 'zombies' because I'm nearing 2000 hours of Left 4 Dead. I just don't care what I kill or what I play as. It's the gameplay or story (in cases like Mass Effect) that keeps me attached to certain games. I've been trying to stop gaming too, but I just can't. :

I AM BACK INTO GAMING. I don't know, just had a strange feeling after lunch and logged on my steam. I have this game that I bought on Summer Sale called Dino D-day, well I found out that this weekend it's free to play for everyone, so the servers would be full. I played it and I enjoyed a lot. I've played it with a friend and I had a lot of fun. Suddenly all the other games from my library were showing themselves interesting again :)

P.S.: I bought Borderlands, and I am lovin' it.

TC i know how you feel. I use to be able to play a single player games and do two or three runthroughs of the camapign and now it is a struggle just to finish one playthrough. I don't really know why this is. Last game I actually beat was LA Noire and that was because it was unlike anything I had ever played before. Give me another Faloout and I probably won't make it through half of it.
