If you're not from Australia, then you have probably heard the term "The spiders in Australia are so big they have there own health bars", well it's true.

Just a few minutes ago I had planned to go out to get some lunch, so I went a brought in my clean washing off the washing line in the back yard. Little did I know that in my new clean shorts was a little friend who was hitching a ride. I put my shorts on and felt a slight jab in my upper thigh. I didn't think about it at all until I felt him start crawling down my leg at which point I froze.

Usually residential species consist mainly of golden orb spiders, huntsmans and wolf spiders. However there is still the chance that it could be a black widow or a red back, so the key is not to panic.

I allowed him to crawl the length of my leg so I could get a good look at him, too my surprise it was neither of the above mentioned spiders, infact I still have no idea what it is. Anyway, I ended him in the most humane way I could and took this picture to see if anyone knows what kind of spider it is.

It's been about an hour now and I have yet to feel any ill effects, so maybe it was just a warning bite. :)

Thats most likely just a wolf spider variety. Im no expert but ive done some research, there are only a handful of harmful spiders out of thousands of species and that looks pretty tame. Only way to be sure is to wait, if no serious marking or swelling occurs in the next few hours you're clear as i suspect you already are mate.

We tend to subconsciously associate "evil" with something that is superficially disgusting or aesthetically unpleasing. Eight hairy legs and a lot of eyes is, in my opinion, about as disgusting as you can get. (no offense) I think that's why a lot of people are afraid of them.

Would you consider a hairy beast that eats bones, uses its jaws to bite, and it half the size of a human to be evil sounding? Dogs and other large animals seem much more creepy and disgusting if you really think about it. Get rid of all of societies and the media representation and decide if you'd rather be trapped in a room with the aforementioned dog or a spider the size of your thumbnail. I bet aliens visiting our planet for the first time would choose to be trapped with the spider.

Dogs are beautiful creatures, in my opinion. (The vast majority, anyway) Your point is taken, as many animals that we view as being such would kill us far more brutally than a spider. Still, most dogs or even wolves don't go after humans, while spiders on occasion actually purposely attack us. I've heard that some varieties are particularly aggressive.

I know someone who traveled to Africa on a safari, and during a part of it when they were walking around, they came upon a pack of wild dogs. They got up and actually started to play (play biting, running around etc) with the tourists.

Many other animals also have the possibility of being domesticated... which may be another factor.

Honestly, if I had to choose whether or not to be mauled by a dog or bit by a little spider, I'd pick the spider. Seems to me an easier death. But if I were trapped in a room with one of those really big tarantula-esque spiders, zomg I would so piss my pants. I actually shuddered just not thinking about it...LOL

I was bitten by a spider over the summer in my sleep. It took a few days for the spot to grow to the size of an American 50 cent piece, then turned black and brown in the center. Wait a few days.

I had the same thing happened to me while I was living in Georgia. It turns out it was a brown-recluse spider, the spot began to puss and I had go to the emergency room when part of my leg went numb. I still have a pretty wicked scar from it...

Do you know what's even cooler? Jellyfish that have aquatic spiders that live INSIDE them, and come out and attack their opponenets. It DOES EXIST. It was on TV on the Discovery channel awhile ago. They live in droves inside it, and the jellyfish itself is friggin' HUGE.

You got bit by a spider so you made a topic about it on GameSpot?

This makes me wonder if a guy that just got shot would post about it on GameSpot. Then again, nobody would believe him unless he posted pictures. Then the topic would get locked because of the graphic content in the pictures, then he'd get banned. Then he'd die from his gunshot wound. So he'd die knowing he got banned from GameSpot for getting shot. :(

 That's pretty funny.

If a spider had crawled on me... *shudd-shud-shudder* I'd be taking three consecutive showers right now and staring with shifty eyes at all corners of the room.

If I went to Australia, I'd definitely bring bug spray. But,come on,health bars?!?! Maybe I should bring my Masamune...

Oh, Clinik, 1. You belong in a clinic ;) and 2. We had those kind of tiny spiders in our backyard for a long time when I was little. My sister would practically let them crawl on her hand. They're as close to cute as spiders can come, but those weren't as dark and sinister as the ones in your photo.

Also... We haven't heard back from him. DUN DUNN DUUUNNNN.

Oh my. I'm terribly sorry. I just looked it up. I meant the Portugese Man o' War, and it's called that for a reason:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physalia_physalis

They're not spiders, but aquatic little things that live in this NON Jellyfish(It looks it). They're cool.
