They seem so pathetic. How can someone rich not have an happy life? You really gotta try hard for it. Their problems seem so meaningless. Its always about relationship problems, problems with their rich daddies, this are just examples.

Do you know that in countries like switzerland, the suicide rate for rich people is very high, even higher than any other people? How? I cant imagine them having any kind of problems worthy of suicide.

Most of the times, even with their problems, they always have a big house with a swiming pool, a fancy car, lots of money, they always have.... how im gonna call it.... a safety net or something.

Then thers other people, that besides having many, if not all of these problems, they still have to worry about having a place to live, food to eat... and so on. We are always on the edge, thers a lot of pressure. They dont have that kind of pressure. They have something like an headstart in their lives, and they seem to not take advantage of it.

But they cant affrord to feel the feeling of starting low and get to the top. Now thats a great feeling.

Thats why i never really trust that much politicians that didnt started trough the bottom. Thers many i do, but if you started at the bottom, you will know how it is to be in other people place. You know how to fix it maybe.

But what is really worst is those TV shows with rich teens and their stupid problems, And they are on, all the time. And by the looks of it, many people watch that crap.

So what you think?

When people are bored (as rich people always are) they get depressed. The trick is to do just enough work to keep you busy, but not enough to overwhelm you.

Thus the phrase "money can't buy happiness."

I'm betting these rich people who commit suicide have no real friends, noone who likes them for who they are, and they feel used for their money and worthless that noone likes them.

The best way I can put it in perspective is this: Imagine having no friends who actually enjoy your company, so being rich, you have all the things you want but noone who truly enjoys doing them with you. It would feel incredibly bad.

Now personally if I was rich, I'd be so damn happy I wouldn't care, I'd buy my friends, whatever. haha.

I think you're making a horrible assumption that many people make.. that money = happiness. It doesn't, never has, and never will. You're probably thinking to yourself.. well if I had money, I'd be happy. I'd have no problems, everything would be easy for me. But you'd be horribly wrong.

Because there's many more factors in life that determine hapiness than just money. The majority of suicides come from the mentally ill for example.

A lot of rich people have had to work very hard to become rich. I mean, yeah, there are all sorts of rich families so some people just get 'lucky,' and sometimes people get 'lucky' by creating a product that takes off or something, but a lot of rich people have to work very hard. Doctors, lawyers, etc. all have stressful (but well-paying) jobs that required a lot of schooling and working to get to where they are today. Stress is a great factor in unhappiness. Also, some rich people just get bored. They have what they want and they don't really feel like they need to strive for anything anymore. I'm really just speculating, though, I guess. I'm not rich.

Actually, rich people overall commit suicide at a higher rate than the less wealthy. Emile Durkheim did a study on suicide that said as much. His methodology has been called into question, but his study has been repeated and teh results were the same. he concluded that the common factor between all the groups that suicide at the highest rate was isolation. Rich people have the ivory tower effect many times, whereas poor people generally have better support systems.

I think you are generalizing rich people. It's not exclusively them who have this problem, and to be honest, it's more of a problem of what kind of worldview they have and what they view themselves as capable of. Sometimes it's something as simply not having a direction in life. Everyone has their own unique needs and values. It can also depend, but not mutually exclusive to, the happiness that they've had previously in life.

And similarly, while I don't agree that money itself buys happiness, what you do with it can help lead you to happiness. It can help you live the life you want to live. You can live completely under the radar, modestly, like a hardly working king, or a hard working philanthropist. Or it can be anywhere between any of these options. The choice is yours. But doing this while keeping your integrity and a feeling your life has a purpose often takes a rather considerable amount of discipline, direction, worldview, which many people, rich or not, don't seem to have.

Drakes_Fortune

You say that their problems seem meaningless, and then go on to say that they have relationship problems, which are among the most fundamental and difficult problems any human can have, regardless of how much money one has.

A sufficient quantity of money can be a facilitator of happiness if applied well by someone whose compass points them in the right direction, but it is not exactly by any means a guarantor of that happiness. One of the biggest problems people have who are born into rich families is the inability to experience loss, struggle, or hardship, experiences that develop a critical sense of understanding and empathy and which are absolutely necessary for a person to truly be a whole human being.

Fact is, people grow numb to whatever they have after prolong exposure to it. They need change. For example, finding out you won the lottery, im sure you would be the happiest man in the world initially, but aftera couple of months of indulging, im sure you would go bored. I've experienced this before, though its on a smaller scale.

The thing that bring lasting happiness to people is the accomplishment of achieving it. Most of us have to save up to get whatever material possesions we want, once we finally getit, you feel happy because you accomplished something. And we have alot of wants so this can go on and on.I figuired that many rich people are unable to find anymore things to do after they could fufill all their wants with no effort, and grew bored and depressed as a result. In this case, i think friendship/family is very important to them and those with none could be driven to sucide.

the real rich people are the ones pushed by their parents to do really hard in school and not have a fun social life and so when they are finally of age to live on their own and when they do collect in money they pertain no social skills and so they feel lonely and cannot get a girl/guy and then they feel like they havent lived life and one of the funnest times of their lives has gone to waste.

They seem so pathetic. How can someone rich not have an happy life? You really gotta try hard for it. Their problems seem so meaningless. Its always about relationship problems, problems with their rich daddies, this are just examples.

GabuEx

You say that their problems seem meaningless, and then go on to say that they have relationship problems, which are among the most fundamental and difficult problems any human can have, regardless of how much money one has.

A sufficient quantity of money can be a facilitator of happiness if applied well by someone whose compass points them in the right direction, but it is not exactly by any means a guarantor of that happiness. One of the biggest problems people have who are born into rich families is the inability to experience loss, struggle, or hardship, experiences that develop a critical sense of understanding and empathy and which are absolutely necessary for a person to truly be a whole human being.

I was talking more about love relationships, the way they get all screwed just cause of a relationship went wrong, or their bf/gf is cheating on him. Big deal, move on, Im sure you can find someone else. And besides, the point is that its not only rich people that have those problems. Dont you think poor people have those problems too? But besides having to worry with these problems, wich may be more than enough already, they have even worst things to worry about. Its one hell of a pressure.

Lol you think that rich people are the only ones pushed by their parents to do really hard on school? Most of the times we dont even need our parents saying we gotta do well in school. Im very aware of that by myself, many of us have the wish and the will to get a better life, so we work hard for it, we dont need anyone else saying that to us. The pressure upon you, that in case you fail and your life will be miserable is tremendous.

I don't really know what you're talking about here. Of course poor people have those problems. That wasn't what you were talking about, however; your opening post was declaring basically that rich people should be happy and that these problems are meaningless... a declaration that you now seem to be going back on?

Yeah your right but what i mean was that some parents push there kids to that point and society's way is that to go to school, do good in it, go to college, work hard get a wife get married have a family which most do and is an appropriate path but what im trying to say is i'd rather live a life where I've done more things with people or socially to remember for a lifetime and to be not as rich then to be a person with not much experiences to remember and be rich... Loneliness is the main reason why rich people kill them selfs.

And the reason why maybe these rich people killed them selfs is the exact thing I stated.

Guess what? OUR problems are meaningless to the 80 percent of humanity that lives on less than $10 a day. Our worries are whether we'll be able to afford a nice house, a nice car, a lavish lifestlye. A lot of people in the world are worried about whether they'll have sufficient food, shelter, whether or not thier water is drinkable, stuff like that.

...Evidently you did not make yourself pretty clear, as I have no idea what point you're trying to argue in favor of. :P
