Really good riffs from what I've heard. I like the low growls too, but I don't care for the higher screams.

Dear Film Guy,

I really hate the pop punk genre but one band that I've always enjoyed was Blink 182 (and also The Pillows but that's a whole different story). Tell me why is it that I can't find any other good band in this genre?

P.S. No bands with B 182 members or anything on alternative radio cause that's the kind of stuff that puts me off.

Nifty_Shark

Blink 182 had a weird kind of humor to their music I think. Try some of these.

Ween

Pavement

Pigeon Detectives

Pulp

Man or Astro man?

The Zutons

None of these bands sound like Blink 182, but they might be what you would be into. Blink 182 were an odd band, I cant really think why I liked them either:P

Alright, after listening to The Cure, I'm having mixed feelings. The music is great, but the singer sort of ruins it for me. :? Anyway, LJ (or anyone), moving on to Placebo, which albums should I start with?

Without you I Am Nothing. The last two albums are a sign of a band going into decline.

Ween are a very weird band, they are good muscians but their songs are usually very goofy. I know Nada Surf, dont know screeching weasel though. You might like the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and they might be giants.

I listen to most of them, maybe not very often though. I have some metalhead friends who burn these CDs for me and if I like it I buy it. I have a ridiculous stack dedicated to metal of all kinds, Im not hugely into metal but I like listening to it. There are so many sub genres though its overwhelming.

Anytime:P I try and keep an open mind when it comes to music. i listen to anything from metal, to classical, to rap, to ABBA. Heck I even listened to Miley Cyrus. Not because I like her, but I think I had to listen before I judged her music. People sometimes say they hate a band or singer when they have never heard them before.

Prog is a huge, and very vague genre. For prog metal I recommend these.

Riverside

Porcupine tree

Hourglass

Time's Forgotten

Oceansize

DGM

Anthropa

Exivious

Anubis Gate

Guilt Machina

For other Prog here are some more.

King Crimson

Camel

Van Der Graaf Generator

Maudlin of the well

IQ

Gazpacho

Jethro Tull

Gentle Giant

Delirium

Pineapple thief are a band that everyone should check out. No matter what genre, some say they are similar to radiohead.

Film-Guy

Seconded. They're a fantastic band. Variations on a Dream is my favorite album.

The only similarity to Radiohead is the vocalist.

So far, the only band I've gotten into is Modest Mouse. It's hard to describe why I like them. I prefer their sound over more intense, harder rock. It has a certain cool feeling that I enjoy. I've only listened to two of their albums so far, The Moon and Antarctica and Good News for People Who Love Bad News. I prefer TMaA because I like the feel of it, and I think it was of higher and more consistent quality than Good News, which I believe was a bit hit and miss. So Film Guy, what can you discern from this?

Well, here are some of my favorite bands. Gather what you can.

The Pixies

Blink 182

Vampire Weekend

Motion City Soundtrack

Modest Mouse

The Postal Service

Cold War Kids

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

Ratatat

Film-Guy

Try these:D

Wild Beasts

Anthony and the johnsons

innaway

Horrors

The impossible shapes

Ocean Colour Scene

The Fall

Hot Chip

The Levellers

Manic street preachers

Shearwater

Shout out louds

Sloan

Can't say I liked most of it, but Shout out louds is really good and the manic street preachers and sloan were fairly good too.

I'll definitely be getting some of their songs though. Thanks!

So Film Guy, what can you discern from this?battlefront23
Ever try Brand New? Perhaps Does It Offend You, Yeah? Gorillaz Eve 6 Variations that aren't quite similar, but whenever I'm in the mood to listen to them, I also listen to these guys.

ha first ive heard someone on this forum suggest does it offend you, yeah. they have just enough synth and uniqueness to not be like a innerpartysystem cop-out (which is good band btw). you got a similar taste in music to some degree. the used is decent and chasing victory isnt half bad, though i prefer underoath.

Film-Guy

Oh, well thanks for the recommendations :D

Anytime:P I try and keep an open mind when it comes to music. i listen to anything from metal, to classical, to rap, to ABBA. Heck I even listened to Miley Cyrus. Not because I like her, but I think I had to listen before I judged her music. People sometimes say they hate a band or singer when they have never heard them before.

Any sludge metal similar to Baroness would be greatly appreciated as well. The Blue Record leaked and it's one of my favorite albums of the year :D

[QUOTE="battlefront23"][QUOTE="Got_to_go"]So far, the only band I've gotten into is Modest Mouse. So Film Guy, what can you discern from this?huytttr

Well the cores he threw in there are the lightest ones, and even though Underoath isn't very hard, I didn't feel like they belonged in there. If it was my choice I'd throw August Burns Red in there. :P

Inclusion of Finch makes you awesome. A Day to Remember perhaps? The Used Rise Against Chasing Victory Dead Poetic Emery early Escape the Fate All are similar, but not quite post-hardcore. Minus A Day to Remember.

I don't know much about Hip-Hip right now, but 7L & Esoteric is pretty good.

could anyone give me bands that are similar to Between The Buried and Me. Also could anyone mention some avant-guarde or prog metal bands that incorporate Jazz music.

How about these guys?

Yandere

Good. Minus the numerous f-bombs. :P The high pitched screechy scream is pretty annoying though. And the drumming seems a little off.
