...having had a 'job'. This seems to me to be too servile in nature. I'd prefer something a little more outlandish.

At the moment, I'm developing some parasitic tendencies; I persuade other people to give me money rather than earn it, and am quite successful.

But this is no way to survive in the long-term with ease, so any suggestions? Confidence trickster? Scrounger extraordinaire? Hermit? Monk?

I can see myself living in the remote wild like Robinson Crusoe, but not taking up a place in the rat race. What should an aspiring scoundrel do?

Cool, but you'll never get a girlfriend in the real world without a job you know. Only way to do this is to win the lottery or something else like that.

Why are you avoiding a job so much? They're not that bad. At least you'd be able to live like a normal person.

Everybody has a job they could do and enjoy. Unless you have absolutely no hobbies/skills/talents.

Don't leech off of others, thats what too many Americans are doing now and it's wrecking our federal coffers...

I certainly have no desire for 'Normal', and girlfriends are among those from whom I'd sponge from - it has happened before. To live off my wits and live for the moment like an adventurer is primarily what I'm interested in. I could see myself as a wanderer, going from here to there and making my living as I go, - through whatever means. Is this so wrong?

Oh, and I'm already out of my parents house, - currently a student, living with others and milking 'em for what they're worth. I have something of a talent for finding weaker souls. But I'm a swell fellow, really.

No man, go ahead, live life like you want to, don't let the lemmings sway you otherwise, the ordinary, the normal, the mind numbing routine of everyday "work" life", it's awful if being a vagabond it's what you think that you must do to live like you like you believe, you should then go for it. some of the greatest thinkers of all humanity lived as vagabond one time or another.

I was thinking about that recently as well, live in a forest somewhere, once you are competent enough to rely upon yourself to get food by hunting and foraging you're sorted, except for sanitation and stuff, I still can't figure out a solution for that. But if you become self reliant, rether than just mooching off others then you should do it, noone can complain. And I think living self reliantly would be a good and rare trait for potential employers, so when you decide to settle down your time away from society could help you, I'm sure employers would appreciate someone who doesn't have to rely on others for everything.

I would like to do that, and I live in England so there are large forests but no worrys about bears and stuff, actually, both my best friend and his sister are quite keen on the idea as well, that would be awesome, especially with some female company :)

I know what you mean. I'm lazy and I really don't want to work, but I work because I have to. Besides if you find something you love to do, then get a job that involves stuff you like.

Nope. If that's what you want to do, go ahead. As long as it isn't causing problems for anybody, go right ahead and live life however you want. I'd personally like to just live alone in peace in my room without ever having to work or worry about anything again. Too bad that won't happen and I'll have to get a job and move out sooner or later.

So you want to be a loser?? That's pretty much all you had to say.

If it's the 'Rat Race' you are concerned about there are plenty of jobs and careers out there that have nothing to do with it. I have worked in and out of the Rat Race and can attest to this.

Just get married to someone rich. Im sure you've already been called a pig. You're not using "wits" to deceive someone, you're manipulating to get what you want (in my eyes) (if you don't return the money) It's not disgusting if you say "can I have it" but if you add "I will pay you back" then thats crude. Furthermore, you certainly can't call it "wits" if you're relying on the internet rather then yourself to get it.

You could travel? It costs money but you can pick up odd jobs on the way to pay for flights, food, accomidation and such. Or, I know it means getting a job, but. Work for a year, take a couple years out going round the world, go back and work for a year, repeat ???? profit

become a legendary hacker. you get the best of all sides: no "job" per say, chicks who want to "fight the power", lots of money(from doing your hax), and you would probably learn about how to avoid the law.

1. I did not by any means say all chicks. I am sure some hot gothic/anarchy chick would be interested in a guy like this.

2. Good hackers dont sit in one spot. They are paranoid beyond all comprehension and are information control freaks. They move every couple weeks to lessen the chances of being tracked.

I thank those for whom this topic seemed a worthwhile place to post, and I appreciate the suggestions from both sides. I have, however, come to my senses, and realise that a fine career promising fame and fortune is about all a humble fellow can hope for; and that is what I opt for, at the moment.

You could get some land and live in the wilderness. But you'd have to have a job in order to buy property.

Sure working sucks, but I'm sure being homeless and on the streets sucks much more.

You can compromise on your dream and make it work. I met a couple on a deserted beach in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. They were both lawyers and living in a camper. They only worked a few months a year back in the US just to earn enough money to get by. Then they would disappear down in Mexico living on beaches until their money ran out.
