Techincally you can be born in Africa from white parents whom at some point they or their ancestors did move to Africa. That would make you white and african. And for the question, if an american man moved here he'd be american but if I settled in America I'd be an Irish American and so would my kids. It's an American thing that they put the nationality of their ancestors before american

To me, it's what it sounds like.  A person in America who came from (ancestor or otherwise) from Africa.  It's generally used to describe blacks. 

i just call black people black :| none of them have a problem with it. actually i know a lot of black people who get annoyed with the term 'african-american' i'm part black myself, but mostly hispanic & some caucasian. people don't know what to call me :DKook18
