I think the real question is,
If a tree falls in the forrest and hits a mime, does anyone care?

far side?
Im gonna have to say yes.
"Sound can't exist if no one is alive to hear it"? I don't think that's exactly how it works...
I believe it makes a sound. Are you telling me that sounds are exclusive to humans?

Yes...the sound is an absolute. Your hearing it is just your perception of the sound.
Main Entry: 3sound
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English soun, from Anglo-French son, sun, from Latin sonus, from sonare to sound; akin to Old English swinn melody, Sanskrit svanati it sounds
1 a: a particular auditory impression : TONEb: the sensation perceived by the sense of hearing c: mechanical radiant energy that is transmitted by longitudinal pressure waves in a material medium (as air) and is the objective cause of hearing
There is no place on earth where a tree exists thatany living creature is not within the given radius of the sound.
It does make a sound. Besides, there could always be my recording device tucked beneath a rock to the side. Play it back and listen to it :x
If your screaming on the street andnobody hears you screaming...are you really screaming??? o_Owii4panta
in that case you hear yourself so,if you are human, you should be able to hear your scream...logic lent by tc :D
Assume all the animals are dead. No ears would exist. Two400
Ears wouldn't exist, but sound would.:| There3 is no sound in space because there is no air in space, nothing for the sound waves to travel on. Here is something: If a firework shoots off but nobody sees it,did it explode? The answer is, yes, because that's what they do. Things make sounds whether they are heard or not.
Stupidest philosphical question ever. I mean, ever.
Yes it does make a sound! Why would it not make a sound just because nobody is there? As mentioned before, there is probably some cute furry forest critter there to hear it. Please, explain to me how it could possibly not make a sound. Unless it was some sort of new species of super-quiet tree. I dare thee!
[edit] I got a question for you. If someone makes a stupid thread, and nobody sees it, does that still make it a thread?
Unfortunately, that stupid thread is still there taking up poor gamespot's bandwitdth
If a nuclear bomb blows up ten miles away, does it make a sound? Of course it does. Now to put this in a term you can understand.
If the tree falls, unless it falls into an endless pit with little to no gravity, it will collide with oncoming objects. Projecting sound. Sound is measured in decibals and is created by waves which is measured in decibals. The tree would infact create sound.
What if someone lied and said the tree inquestionhad fallen. Did it still make a sound? If you believed the person then yes it would've made a sound. You couldn't be sure it had or hadn'tif you weren't around to witness the tree falling. How can you be sure it made a sound? Maybe there was no tree.

so, things that people dont witness dont actually happen? I never thought of it that wayWhat if someone lied and said the tree inquestionhad fallen. Did it still make a sound? To summarise that, people are answering under the assumption that they know for certain that the tree has fallen. But how could they knowif there was no-one around to witness it?
so, things that people dont witness dont actually happen? I never thought of it that way This could make since...now there is evidense to support that god DOESNT EXIST!!! good job...What if someone lied and said the tree inquestionhad fallen. No. But how would you be aware of the fallen tree? Someone would have to tell you about it. Would you believe them? If you would then to you, the tree made noise. But what if they were lying and the tree in question hadn't fallen, you'd believe that the tree had made noise, when in fact it was still standing. The only way to know for sure if the tree had fallen is to see for yourself the remains of it, then you can conclude that it had in fact made a sound.
Follow my train of thought? Nothing better than a bit of logic to sort things out.
what? the falling tree would still move air molocules so the tree does make a sound, or the laws of physics are BS
