Who would ally with them?
Doesn't an independent nation need allies?
Who would ally with an independent country of Texas?
I can't really see anybody near them doing that if they left the US.
Also, how long do you think they'd last on their own?

Wouldn't last very long, I don't know who would ally with them and I dont know what they would do about currency, trade laws, etc.

I don't see them getting any allies. Don't really have a reason for it it just doesn't seem like anybody would jump on that. Also I don't think they would last long. If America didn't put it's foot down and instead simply boycotted them moral would sink really fast. There are a lot of products that come from the US not made by Texas. Maybe 6 months.
Id actually see them flourishing nicely. Texas right seems to be the only state flourishing in the past 10 years while the U.S. economy is down.
If they do secede they'd have a lot of minerals and resources to trade with such as oil. The only problem would be protecting the borders.
If the U.S. does plunge deeper into the hole, i think the question of secession might need greater tought.
I think as far as allies go Texas would have but some (probably limited) trading partners.
It could last on it's own, but not nearly at the level of success or comfort as it would in the union.

Houston's the best!
I bet they would take a bunch of states with them. Like Oklahoma and Arizona and Utah and Idaho. Possibly even more. Then they would take over new mexico and colorado!
Dude! I knew a guy from Texas who would tell us about Klan owned "Koffee shops" and signs with racial slurs telling black people to stay out.I'd go there, cause texas is awesome! I'd have to avoid the lynching areas being black and all but meh.. I'll stay in houston.

For the record though, I hope they do secede. uh............why? I don't like Texas. They make us look bad. They tried to make money on our river. The Red River. Oklahoma owns the entire thing. They opened toll bridges. Someone went down there and shot someone and long story short we got free bridges that they have to pay to maintainhalf of.I'd give Texas about 3 months on its own before Mexico makes a play for it. That's if the drug cartels don't do it first and make it their own little drug-running paradise.

I was talking mainly about mutual political values. Sadly.Well, if Texas were to become its own country, it would be one of the Top 50 most populated countries in the world.

If Texas seceded, whoever was President would not allow it to happen. The Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force would squash the rebellion within a few weeks, if not days. This is one of the dumbest ideas ever. The President wouldn't allow another Civil War to occur.LoseEagles1245Who said it would lead to a war? Couldn't they just sucede without war? I would let them go if I was president.

I would let them go if I was president. Common sense. The federal government wouldn't let a state succeed no matter what. We're well past that time in our history.
Heck, you couldn't even due it confederate style either, with dozens of states succeeding. Why? Because no state militia would be able to challenge the federal government.

Wouldn't that be the worst thing the President of the USA could do? I mean, if the people of Texas voted overwhelmingly to be separated and the US President didn't allow it, that would be showing truly that he couldn't give a **** about what the people want and he is all about power.
If Texas want to be a separate country let them do it. As long as it is done in a democratic manner (i.e. vote passed by the people and the government) it should be allowed.

So your saying all the Southern States before the Civil War started should have been just allowed to leave because their state governments voted for secession, and most of their citizens supported it?Actually, Texas by itself would be pretty successful. And the US will hurt a lot.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_GDP_(nominal)
This is a link on the GDP of individual states in the United States. As you can see, Texas constitutes the second largest GDP of any state in the Union (behind California). It would also have the 13th highest GDP in the world if independent, ahead of Australia, Mexico, South Korea, etc, and just behind the Russian Federation. It'll also be the4th largest economy on both American continents.
Basically, Texas represents 8% of the GDP of the United States. Also, with its reserves of oil and its location along the Mexican-US border and the Gulf of Mexico makes it ideal as a location for trade. So, an independent Texas will by a significant power anyway one looks at it.
Edit: Although this kind of highlights the obscene power of the United States. Even if the US is broken up into smaller units, each one still has enough wealth and industry to be a significant player in the world economy.
