Personally I would dodge it because I don't believe in nationalism or any of this phony slogan crap the government tries to push on me. I would rather do jail time or emigrate than fight for a system that I did not choose to be part of. I think anyone who would not dodge it, is an idiot and is asking to get a bullet in the head. Screw the military and screw nationalism.

Well as it stands now the selective service age for the United States is 18-25. So long as the draft doesn't come within the next 4 months I will then be 26 and unless they change the selective service rules I should be safe from being drafted.

It would depend on what I was being asked to fight for.

It depends on the circumstances. I think saying you would accept or refuse without knowing the circumstances is a bit absurd. What if someone invaded the US? Would you run like a coward as they kick you out of your home?

Considering WW3 would likely result in nukes being used then a draft would be rather pointless. But If a draft was put in effect and I was drafted then I'd have no choice unless I want to be charged with treason and imprisoned.

I'm 37, nearly 38, so my draft days are over unless it became a desperate situation. Had I been drafted during WWII, which was a just cause, I would have definitely answered my call to duty. Vietnam, however...

@godfatha91: How old are you? You sound like an angsty teenager.

Also your 'asking to get a bullet to the head' statement is the biggest sign that you have no idea what you're talking about.

My service in the Air Force helped me get a job in the high-tech industry, purchase a home and further my college education for free (the monthly housing stipend on top of my already decent household income is awesome).

EXACTLY. Screw the military? Screw nationalism? Do you also say

1. Screw Democracy

2. Screw Free enterprise

3. Screw high standards of living

You want all the benefits of living in America but want to pay none of the price? Wudup with that?

They wouldn't accept me for 2 reasons:

  1. Too old (at least according to ferrari2001).
  2. Too many medical conditions.

I couldn't be drafted because I'm still being treated for cancer.

I'd tune in into IRL Game of Thrones of WW3 and start placing bets.

I have a hard time imagining myself killing someone who is the same species as me. I say that now, but drop some bombs on my city and this mindset would probably disappear. I'm a year too old for the draft though.

Canada probably wouldn't let me go because I have a criminal record and questionable mental health issues.

I would gladly go if they let me. I got nothing better to do.

War is inevitable now. The real government---the one whose members you don't get to elect---has already ordained it, and it won't matter one iota whether their pliant figurehead is a Republican or a Democrat.

Fleeing to Canada won't help you, because global thermonuclear war won't spare Canada.

As others have said it depends on the context of the war. The only way I could see myself interested in joining a battle is an invasion of the country, but for the most part I have zero intent of ever signing up for something where I am guaranteed to get shot at. I value my life more than that, not to mention we have an extensive history of honoring our veterans in word only. We call them heroes sure, but words don't mean much when you can't get medical treatment or a job.

Why do people keep saying this? I was never shot at. I have never met anybody that has been shot at. Joining the military does not = getting sent to the front lines to take up space.

average survival duration of a foot soldier in battle is between 2 and 4 minutes ... thats why they need so many of them, have fun ...

a 200 Million $ fighter plane is expected to survive at least 15 minutes in a battle

and then, you cant fire an assault rifle without seriously harming your ears and the delicate organs inside, seriously it isnt alowed to practice firearms without earprotection even in the army ... it can cause a shock inside your ears wich basicly disables your whole system of orientation, this condition needs advanced hospital treatment ...

so what do you think a tank firing a shoot or no, 60 vs. 60 tanks firing shoots at each other sound like?

I think 'hell' isnt even coming close to describing this situation

I say it because it's generally what I think of when I think about WW3. it's likely others feel the same. On top of that getting drafted makes it less likely you will get a say in what you do.

the problem of sending people into war is that going into war means you are dead, for sure, you will die. and because you will die you will kill as well untill your time comes ... you will kill everyone not wearing your uniform, you will only listen to what your body is telling you, because you are already dead and there is no reason to use your brain or to 'think ahead' ever again ... the only problem you can have as a soldier send into war is, when it ends but you still havnt died ... suddenly there is a 'tomorrow' again and everything you did 'yesterday' is relevant again in an instant ... you are still dead but there is no war anymore ... only normality, wifes, children, neighbours ...

if you enter war ones you will never be able to come back to normality ... if you look at the numerous Vietnam movies that were made over the years, what I wrote was common sense once ...
