I went to a movie today and being in a wheelchair I have to sit in a specific part of the theatre. To my surprise, a woman and her husband came in with a baby stroller, and every time a loud part came up in the movie, for the next two or three minutes all I'd hear is this loud screech coming from the baby carriage. All I could think is 'What kind of Mother does this..?". I honestly wanted to go to the Manager, but I didn't want to miss the Movie. Some people pay anywhere from $10 - $40.00 to see a single Movie by themselves or with Family, and they don't want to have it ruined because you were too lazy or impatient to hire a babysitter for your screaming banshee. If you can afford a movie, you can afford a Babysitter. If you don't have enough time to get a Babysitter, wait another day or two. The movie isn't going anywhere.

Does anyone else get pissed off when someone brings their infant into a movie theatre?

Yep. It sucks. Which is why I wait for the movie to be out a few days and then go when I know its a good film. Movies are expensive to go to right now anyway, if I had to sit there and listen to a baby **** throughout the whole movie I'd complain to the staff.

This is one of the main reasons I refuse to go to movie theaters anymore. I got so frustrated last time I saw a movie that I walked out halfway through and told the manager they'd never get my money again. Over two years later I've not gone to see a movie in a theater, any theater.

Yes, and next time go to the manager and ask for your money back or a different showing. theaters should have age limits depending on the movie.

Isn't it a jump in reason to assume that if you had the extra money to see a movie you also had extra money to hire a baby sitter on top of that? You may have money for one or the other but how do we know they have money for both?

I actually don't go to the movie theater as much anymore for reasons like this. I think I might be too anal about it sometimes though. I can't even stand when my friends start talking to me. I'm trying to pay attention to the movie damn it!

There's really nothing you can do about it. They're just as much entitled to be there as you. Yes, it's rude, but again, nothing you can do about it.

Yeah this one was PG13. I remember going to Finding Nemo and a baby cried at a couple parts in that movie.

You pretty much had to expect kids in Finding Nemo.

Sadly people know how to be quiet in the movie theaters which makes me go to them less and less for that reason.

Yeah it can be quite annoying. I understand if parents can't afford a babysitter to take care of their baby/kids but i find it really annoying when they bring them to a film which is unsuitable. E.g. M15+ movies.

Sigh_han
Well, a baby isn't going to absorb anything from an restricted movie just as much as it wouldn't from a kid's movie. And most babies usually end up sleeping through it for the most part.

I'm fine with people going to movies with their little kids. The part where I begin being not so fine is when their kids start screaming their heads off and the parents just sit there hoping they'll stop. Take your brat outside, lady.

Don't go to the movies, that simple. enjoy films in the comfort of your own home. I don't follow your logic of how if you can afford something, you can afford to double that expense. I think they probably took their baby because they couldn't find a babysit. It's a possibility.

I don't think parents should bring any kid younger than 4 or 5 to a theatre. I know I won't - it pisses me off when other people do it, I'm not about to subject them to my own kid. Even if I take them outside when they start crying, it's still irritating. It's also a waste of my own money if I have to take my kid out and miss part of a movie. I can wait a few months and rent it instead.

I hate hearing babies scream during movies, it's annoying as hell. If it's a saturday afternoon matinee of a kiddieish movie, I forgive it, but otherwise that baby doesn't need to be there. I once witnessed a person in a wheelchair take a spot in the wheelchair area, only to have a mother with a stroller come, and park the stroller with the whiny baby RIGHT next to him. she then sat in the seat in front of the baby, and made out with her boyfriend/husband whatever while the baby shrieked the whole movie. Somebody went and told the manager and he asked them to leave, but I was blown away by how rude that was.

It doesn't bother me too much, but if the baby is screaming it's head off they should take him/her outside.

What I'm more concerned about is 10 year olds in a MA+15 movie, like Bruno. I felt like running over and covering their eyes!

Babies, teenagers with cell phones, teenage thugs and teen age gangs, plus high prices of tickets and food keep me far away from theaters. I use to go to the movies every week, now its more like once or twice a year, and even then i regret going.

I think cinemas in France actually don't let toddlers and babies see movies (at least if it's not barney or something like that). I would really be pissed if there were a baby crying during a movie; it was bad enough when there were dumb teenagers acting like idiots when I watched Iron Man 2.

Aren't there rules regarding age restrictions to movies? Like a mom or dad can't bring their 6 year old to see Saw 4

That's why you only go see rated R movies ;) Seriously though, it does suck when stuff like that happens. I've never went to a manager before, but I have gotten quite peeved. The main reason why I've never taken it to the management is merely because I don't think it'd resolve much.

Yes, that is extremely annoying. A couple of weeks ago I saw Kick-Ass, and believe it or not I heard an infant crying somewhere in the audience way ahead of us. I thought that was unbelievably irresponsible; a mother bringing her baby to a movie like that (or any movie at all).

In fact last year I was unfortunate enough to sit next to a rather obese woman in a crammed theater after being dragged by my friends to see Fast & Furious. Little did I know that she had an infant with her, and not even 30 minutes into the movie the baby began crying, non-stop. Then she did what many of you could never guess at this point: Sitting next to me, she lifted her shirt (and yes, I saw more than I would ever need to) and began breastfeeding him. That's right, I saw (and heard) everything that I didn't want to from an obese woman breastfeeding her child right next to me and my friends. But mainly me.

Seriously people, why even have kids when you don't know what to do with them....

I don't think I ever ran into this problem. Maybe once but the mom took the child out the few times it was noisy. Either the parents don't care for the other people or I imagine it was spur of the moment thing and they happened to have the baby at the time.

YES! i forgot about that...one of the greatest intros and theaters should be legally bound to play it before every movie (even ones rated G)

Also, you can tell managment about the crying babies (or breast feeding obese mothers) and they'll ask the offenders to leave, even though its incredibly annoying and ruins the movie, it's about all you can do (short of throwing them out yourself)

I can not stand people who bring their babies and young kids to higher rated movie. Not like the kids understand the movie don't care about that I just don't want to hear them screaming. Kids movie on the other hand I go in expecting screaming kids so that don't bother me. I usually just go on the weekdays for kids movie so I won't have to deal with that.

ROFL! Should have made a big scene about it. You probably would have embarrased her to the point where she would have never shown her face in public again.

Never had it happen to me since whenever I'm at theatres it's either an action flick or chick flick, but yeah that would be ridiculous if I had to listen to a kid cry the entire time. It pretty much ruins the movie for everybody including the parents, so I don't know why they'd do it.

On the list of reasons i do not go to the movies, screaming babies is a distant 3rd behind talkative teenagers and adults.

From my perspective i completely agree with OP, I hate distractions like annoying babies that ruin the movie i paid for.

From the parents perspective I dont want to pay some annoying teen to stay in my house and watch my baby.

2 sides to the coin.

Mesden

This is why I have an account with a company that sells films and TV shows on DVDs.

Cyberlink's PowerDVD Deluxe does a great job of running a movie on a PC that looks and sounds as good as any home theater.

Allow me to rephrase what the original poster meant. If you can't afford a babysitter to take care of you child while you're out at the movies, then you can't afford to see a movie. Kinda like how if you can't afford to pay a tip, then you don't go out to eat at a nice restaurant.

Sure he does. They're just another a-hole bringing their child to a movie when they should have left 'em at home. Not much more to it than that.
