...What would it be like? The options are pretty much limitless: monotheism, polytheism, etc. Although you may want to keep it within the bounds of reason if you expect people to believe and follow it. A convincing history/creation story would be required I'm sure. I got the idea from an assignment that I had for my World Religions class, and the types of religions that everybody in the class came up with were pretty cool, so I figured it would be interesting to see what OT would do with this concept. ;)

It wouldn't be fit to be called a religion. That's like calling atheism a religion. Also I can't create what I want since it already exists.

It would be a fusion of Buddhism, rastafari, and maybe some of the teachings of Jesus, because he said some really smart, really revolutionary things.

The religion would be based around me, and I would wear a robe. I'd be something like the modern day Jesus.

Your question is flawed. There are two ways to interpret it: A) You are making up a false religion to trick people into believing. B) The religion you make up becomes true. If A, then I refuse to make up a false belief. If B, then everyone is pretty much going to say the same thing: Do whatever you want and you'll still get eternal happiness.

I'm sorry, you're right, I didn't say that clearly. I'm feeling a little under the weather right now so don't judge me too harshly. :P Anyway, to clarify, the question is just asking that if you could make up a religion (purely for entertainment), what would the chief deity(s) be (if any), the sacred teachings and doctrine, etc. I think most of you are looking at this a little too seriously... it's just a fun exercise of creativity and imagination.

I already do, as I'm sure everyone else does, to some extent. We all have our own perceptions about the world, thus influences our ideas, beliefs, etc etc. Not every Athiest thinks and feels the same way. Not every Christian feels and thinks the same way. Same goes with those of the Islamic faith, etc etc. We all have our own ways of interpreting the messages that religion has passed down to us.

It would be polytheistic, definitely. I've always prefered ancient Greek religion and ancient Egyptian religion (for a couple). It makes more sense to me to have multiple deities with different domains, rather than only one ruling everthing.

Hesterism. It would consist of praying every Sunday for Devin Hester to get a kick return for a touchdown.

My religion would be naturalistic. We would worship nature and try to find everything there is about reality there is to. We would also worship Gaia and all the women of our group would have to be young, fit and naked.

I already made my own religion. The Bob Ross Fellowship is the teachings of Bob Ross (who is the only true savior of the human race). He, in the beginning drew happy trees (his paint brush bestows life to everything), but the happy trees were lonely, so he made the rest of the universe. As for the problem with the cutting down of trees, well, those trees are not happy trees, but just normal trees. It is a very happy little cult that I have created (not enough members to be called a religion yet).

All religion is made up by someone or some group of people. All you have to do is find a group of idiots who will believe you when you say that God speaks through you. It worked for Jesus, Joe Smith, and Muhammad.

Oh, I see. Well, my religion is Gamespotism, where all members of GS are gods in human form. Eternal life can only be gained by serving members of Gamespot,

If I could create my own religion? I would be the goddess. What's better than that?

Lol, I'm kidding. Who would want to follow me and what reason for? I didn't achieve anything that worthy.

Now, if you are looking for interesting religions, I suggest you have a look at greek and viking deities.

If I could create my own religion, I'd make myself a mesiah/savior and if people believed that I was a mesiah/savior without solid evidence, they'd go to hell.

Also, if they believed other people were mesiahs/saviors without solid evidence, they'd go to hell.

Also, if people withheld belief until solid evidence was presented, they go to heaven.

Also also, heaven and hell would be an eternal sleep, except hell would be a sleepier sleep (which is bad).

(no, not really)

It is, except what I've written involves belief by means of a scare tactic. Which I am against in all cases, and not something I would really do if the option was given. I much prefer reasoned logic over scare tactics.

I'd use some of Scientology's doctrines and methods for gathering money and intimidating people, and combine it with traditional juedo-christian beliefs, made radical. I would be so rich and powerful...

It would be called Misantropism. If you're a human being, you go to hell. If you're not a human being, you go to heaven.
