I think what the cartoon is stating is that regardless of how many people dislike you or break your heart you will always have someone who loves you in your pet.

well, sceneguys can be totally hot, so yeah. ^.^ Dunno' about the jerk part, kinda' thinking just 'cos you find the dude to be a jerk, doesen't mean the girl does -- otherwise she obviously wouldn't get with him, 'cos he'd be a jerk! =p
