Like if you listen to a netcast or something and just have it on without giving all your attention to it, will you still understand everything they say with your subconscious?

You'll probably remember random phrases but that's all I guess. Not too deep understanding

I don't think it helps too much. I've started to listen to podcasts from lectures while checking e-mail or browsing the Internet and haven't really noticed any improved performance on exams. This could be just me or the type of class however (listening to an audio recording of a mostly visually taught class probably isn't very effective).

I don't think science knows enough, or will even know enough on this subject to really give you a true answer. The most you could probably gain is memorizing random phrases during those inevitable moments where you do pay attention. Is it possible to truly study the subconcious using today's technology?

No. Your subconscious would be ignoring it as well. If it's auditory stimuli then it would be stored for a maximum of three seconds before getting deleted. If it's visual stimuli it lasts a maximum of a whopping 0.8 seconds before getting deleted. Not that it would even be getting stored in the first place since your mind would filtering it out as environmental noise thanks to sensory acclimation.

Everything you hear your brain processes, but as to whether you will remember it or anything, not really.

Based on my experience, not at all. If I'm doing something else in class, my attention is focused on what I'm doing and not on the lecture; I end up not understanding a thing.

It depends on the person. Some people retain a lot of information while sleeping if you can believe that.

It depends on how much thinking the content requires. To reactivate something you already memorized, it would be great, but to try to "learn" something, I don't think it would be any good.
