Quite a lot of people seem to think "showering any less than once a day is disgusting", and some of them shower multiple times a day.

This is the wrong method. Showering once every single day strips your skin and hair of essential, natural oils that are designed to keep your skin healthy. Washing away those oils all the time causes your skin to get rough and cracked, and your hair to get brittle. Also, it can lower your immune system if you don't let some extra bacteria live on you for a little while.

Of course, most of you will be hard-headed and stubborn because of the way society has conditioned you to believe that showering multiple times a day is healthier, even though science says it's actually detrimental. Those people are a lost cause and deny the truth.

Showering once every three days is the recommended method. It'll improve your immune system, keep your skin and hair healthy, it's just healthier. Why the hell wouldn't you do it that way?

The 'stink' is more detrimental than that. The dust that collects on your body + the sweat. If I were to just stay still in a position in my home for three days then sure. But I go out everyday, play basketball and everything. How am I supposed to socialize when I stink?

Of course if there is an occasion, you'll want to shower more frequently. But generally speaking, once every three-days is the healthiest way to go, not necessarily the most socially acceptable method.

Better approach in my opinion would be to not use any cosmetics such as shampoo, soap etc while taking a bath in your pause of three days.

Perhaps so.

If I don't shower at least once a day, I get grimy and smell and feel uncomfortable. I think ill stay with my shower regiment.

The stripping is due to soaps and shampoos, the only reason conditioner is even a thing is due to shampoos stripping your hair of it's natural oils. I no longer use shampoo, just really warm water and I get right in there and scrub around till I feel it's lost it's build up. By the way my hair looks damn good compared to what it used to when I was using heavy shampoo and conditioner.

Also I don't agree with the every three day rule. In fact for me a healthy adult male it wouldn't even hurt to do two a day as I can build up an odor, and I no longer use deodorant to stem the problem. Since humans have whipped out in most industrialized parts of the world the Bacteria that lessons and dampens your natural body odors, I'd say it's necessary for at least once a day showering.

I shower twice a day and wash my hair once a day. I can't stand feeling all grimy and disgusting. Also I work with kids and I prefer to wash my hair than keep sand, dirt and playdough in it for more than a few hours

I shower every day and my hair is glossy and strong, never lose any of it, my skin is doing just fine and the only "illness" to speak of in the last 10 years was a cold, once. Not to mention showering is quite a pleasurable activity for me (now watch the masturbation jokes begin =P) but if you have brittle hair or dry skin you're free to shower as little as you wish.

I feel like the water being too hot dries my skin more than the regularity of showers so I normally take cool (not cold) showers unless I need to relax my muscles. I do keep my showers as short as possible but that's because I don't want to waste any more water than strictly necessary.

Also, what's with the bitterness lately bro? Look at titles of your last threads "I pity people", "you are a fool". Hope you're not developing a superiority complex...that would suck.

That's pretty much my normal schedule for showering, unless I do something special that requires me to shower (like swimming in a pool). I don't really get sweaty or anything on a daily basis, so I can go 3 days without smelling. I feel like I'd have to go a week without showering before I could amass a smell that overpowers your basic deodorant and spray. Usually it's the texture of my hair that would bother me more than anything, but with decent shampoo, it doesn't get noticeably greasy for at least 3 days.

I prefer to shower daily, but I once had to go three months without either a shower or bath. Just because you can go without a shower for three days doesn't mean you may want to.

I shower once a day. My hair is fine. My skin is healthy. I rarely get sick. If it were a problem, I think my wife, who is a beautician, would have objected by now. No reason for me to change my current system.

I excercise three times a week and often walk 10-15 Km on my off days. The three day rule does not work for me.

This is true. If you shower everyday, your're only hurting yourself and wasting water. Although, I don't agree with the three day rule. I think the two day rule would would be more suited for the average individual.

Well, they will if you don't apply deodorant (which you should do every day anyway). However, the other parts of your body won't smell.

@JangoWuzHere: Well using deodorant is generally just as bad as lathering with shampoo and harsh soups. Might smell nice, but just because shit smells nice doesn't mean it's good to be lathering on yourself.

That's true, but your body will definitely smell if you don't put on deodorant. Your body isn't going to stink without a couple days of showering. Not using the shower for a few days isn't going to effect your social status with anyone, but not using deodorant will hurt that.

@JangoWuzHere: Ya stopped using it last year and besides the odd time I haven't noticed much of a difference or gain in smell unless I'm being highly active. But again smelling is fixable with a jump in the shower for a minute or two so personally I'd rather go without the sticks or gels and just go natural, with more frequent showers. Now I can go longer but two days and I notice I stink so If I find it worth noting then others would too. Don't get how anyone can go three, unless well your not having to socialize in that time frame. In which case that's fine. But generally before leaving the house everyday for work or school I'd assume people would shower, apparently not though.

I take it you don't use the subway much =P It's always great to have someone's armpit in your face and their crotch riding your leg, but when it smells like they haven't showered in a week...sometimes I feel like screaming "It's Monday!!! You had 2 days to take 5 minutes to shower, what's your excuse?!" (yes, I know some people work weekends, but it's a shower for crying out long...)

Shower once or twice or more everyday is perfectly fine.. but the thing is people using soap and shampoo that's what not good for your skin and hair, soap and shampoo rinsed off oil that to keep your skin and hair moist that you need. I recently use salt instead of soap still use soap but less, use shampoo only once a week but very little, I use small washcloth to clean my hair during shower. as for deodorant I use salt bar... the salt keeping myself from being stinky, although I won't smell soapy clean, I do smell my true naturally skin.

I am aware skin and hair can both self regulate and its for this reason I choose not to use shampoo, I prefer to shower in tepid water to wake me up. As for not showering every day, I come home from work and I smell. I dont want to smell, my girlfriend doesnt want me to smell in the same way I dont want her to smell.

Really the health benefits of not showering every day are totally and utterly dependent on how dirty you are. Its not a hard and fast rule of thumb

Just because you may not stink after three days doesnt mean you can claim "people dont stink" after a few days. How could you possibly blanket "all people" in such a ridiculous way. I have a physical job, I have had most of my life, I finish work after lifting shit up and down all day and I stink. Which means roughly every 24 hours 5 days a week I stink and need a shower.

I might not bother if I have a night off but the fact remains I will still stink, the difference is il stink in my own house and not among my peers who dont wanna smell my shitty sweaty armpits.

Thats exactly how our bodies work. We physically exert ourselves, we sweat and it stagnates and smells.

I'm not referring to "all" people. I'm referring to the average individual. if you do a lot of physical work, then you would probably wanna shower more often. However, most people do not have such heavy work load or work out often. Our skin cleans itself to a certain extent. It doesn't need us to wash it everyday.

People who don't sweat a lot or get dirty and shower every day are going overkill.

That just sounds really tedious to me. I'm not saying your wrong, but I'd rather just put on deodorant and not worry about smelling for the rest of the day. A shower doesn't wash away the stink from the armpits well. If you sweat even a little, they'll start smelling again without some deo.

Plus showers make me tired. Even if it's a short one, they drain the energy from my body.

If you don't shower for a few days you should give up all hope of dating and/or getting laid.

It's not that uncommon.

Let me guess: 13?

The occasion is: Work.

The reason is: So my co-workers don't have to smell me.

@JangoWuzHere I am still nto sure were you are getting this "most people" from. Most people where? what demographic? or have you just assumed most people are white middle class and sit behind computers in offices?

Just a blanket statement saying most people dont need to shower because most people dont sweat is silly.

Also that 4 out of five women dont shower every day is nonsense. Perhaps they dont wash their hair daily but shower....not a chance

Even if you do sweat, you still don't need to shower everyday. Everybody sweats, I'm not doubting that. There is a difference between people who sweat for an hour at the gym and people who work 5-8 hours doing constant physical work.

Of course I'm not referring to only white middle class citizens. That's why I said average individual. Most people don't come home drenched in lots of sweat oils, and I really don't feel like I'm making a general statement when I say that.

It is true. I have a shower every two days(may go to 3 but only if I won't be leaving the house) and that's a nice balance IMO. I avoid everyday showers and keep away the stink. Of course on hot or activity-full days that sweat is inevitable, it's perfectly justified to shower every day.

I shower once a day... I think twice a day is a bit much IMO.

"I use deodorant instead of showering" is such a crappy argument...if there's anything worse than smelling someone's BO is smelling it mixed with deodorants. I know some people who "bathe" in perfume so they don't have to shower...I swear I almost throw up when I have to spend more than half a minute talking to them...

Shower twice a day, wash my hair once. I am a girl, cleanliness is of major importance to me.
