If you think about it, the existence of aliens isn't really that farfetched

Now before you dismiss my statement by saying I am crazy, hear me out first.

I think the biggest problem is that people think of aliens as how they are portrayed on tv and in movies - funny and/or scary looking creatures that live on other planets. But nobody ever considers the possibility that "aliens" are just humans and other forms of life from the future.

It's no secret that man has been searching for years for a way to make time-travel possible. And maybe years from now, they will eventually find it.

We already know that the Earth will eventually become inhospitable, and that given the right weather conditions, other planets can eventually become hospitable in Earth's place.

Let's say that hundreds of years from now Earth dies out and human civilization has found a new home on other planets. That could explain why we believe "aliens" exist in what is currently known as outer space. Also, since humans and other creatures evolve over time, that could explain why "aliens" look so much different than humans do now. Finally, since humans will not make "outer space" their home for centuries to come, that would explain why we can't find any trace of life on other planets now - because it simply doesn't exist yet.

Now let's say that hundreds (or even thousands) of years from now, humans do find out what makes time-travel possible. I'm sure they will venture back in time to study the Earth as it is today, but since they don't want to take any action that will drastically change our future, they would need to do so in a way that doesn't disrupt our society, hence the reason why nobody can provide tangible proof of "alien encounters".

I don't believe that the existence of "aliens" is that outrageous. I just think the problem is there is a gross misconception of exactly what "aliens" are.

*prepares for the "you're crazy" accusations*

I'm pretty sure you'll find that most people in OT are open to the existence of extra terrestrials.

I think it's more plausible that there was life on other planets that had a few million years of a jump start on us and that they found us. I mean, think of all of the stuff that's been accomplished in the past hundred years and try to imagine like what life will be like in one hundred more. It's really not that much of a stretch to think that in a thousand years we'll be going to other planets.

there's evidence of "earth-like" planets in the universe.

so alien life is not far-fetched at all.

believing aliens have come to earth already?

now that is far-fetched.

If life on Earth dies, barring some horrendous asteriod impact or similar event, in the next couple of hundred years humanity really, really ****ed up.

given the massive size of the universe, it will be just ridiculous to think we are the only living things. If we are..... that's kinda depressing.

Why is it far fetched? What if they had a billion year head start? Seems like a civilization could get a good deal done in a billion years.

Well to be honest I have to say. We can never really know, hey possibly one day aliens did come (Elvis...Joking though) but we didn't know. I honestly believe that aliens do exist and that many people who don't believe they do are too closed minded or fear a sudden big change like that. So in all honestly anything is possible.

i'm not talking about that.

if aliens had the technology to come here and did, we would have evidence by now.

it would be the biggest scientific day in history.

i just hope they would be peaceful aliens.

because if they have the technology to come here,

they have the technology for other things...

I have to question the intelligence of an extra-terrestrial group of beings that would, of all things, seek or make any contact at all with us. It seems to me that if a group of extra-terrestrial beings are the least bit intelligence, their top priority would be staying the hell away from this planet and its inhabitants.

The one thing that made me sad about the NASA fund cuts was this..We were forwarding our Space so fast competing with the Soviets, then we just stopped. We could be doing so much more now, if there was more pressure on NASA to produce results.

Well, you have to make several assumptions. 1) They know Earth exists, and that it has life 2) The have the technological capabilities that allow space exploration. 3) They could even make a trip that may span hundreds, if not, thousands of years. 4)They care enough to make the trip And if you go with the time-travel thing the TC said that would take another set of assumptions

What I do not get is: Why go through all the trouble to make contact with us millenia ago, and not at least remain here or leave some obvious method of communication?

The thing about Aliens is that most people will accept there is something else out there, or atleast wont find it mad to believe in such a thing. The point where it becomes a madman's theory is when people say they are flying ovver us daily watching from there little round ships.

Well, maybe aliens have already FOUND us.

They're just waiting until we can come to them (i.e. develop space travel).

Or maybe they "wish to enlighten us" and want to give us the tech, but they think our poor little human brains would implode. :P

I hope one day hubble manages to break through the atmosphere of some planet, on a clear day, so that Earth gets it first shot of some alien kid exposing his crotch to space. That's how we should discover alien life.

Or some alien species finds the Pioneer space probe. That would be pretty damn awesome. The reason I said the Pioneer is because it is so far away from us, that we can barely keep in contact with it anymore.

I think it's highly likely there is life elsewhere in the universe.

But the question is will we ever be able to see them. For that to happen either either they or us would have to develop a usable method for faster-than-light travel - but with our current technology there is no way to know whether or not that is possible. The only certainty is with our current level of technology such a thing is not possible.

So for all we know the aliens on the other side of the galaxy and/or universe could beconfined to their little spit of sand -as we are to ours- with no way of ever traversing the semi-infinite distances between worlds to meet one another. This could explain why there is no definitive proof that aliens have visited our planet today - simply because they can't.

So until someone proves otherwise - we are pretty much stuck in our respective corners of the universe.

The assumption here is that the extra-terrestrial life is more intelligent than we are; thus we wouldn't ignore them, but they would probably ignore us.

Oh you and your belief in that which has no proof! And yes, the irony in my statement was completely intentional.
