Presumably there is a person who strongly believes heaven is paradise and if you are a very good person you get to heaven , however he is only good and going to church etc only to get to heaven .SOunds kinda innocent doesn't it ?

Look at this way . There are two teenagers , a dude and a chick . And there is an unpopular kid . THe girl is nice to everyone but the guy isn't so the guy will be nice to the unpopular kid just for the sake of being with the girl . I'm not saying all people are like this but this is a possibility.

It's like you are giving someone a gift but you expect another gift and you didn't give it from your heart.

Your logic ... makes some sence but it's not entirely clear.

There is no heaven or hell....when you die... you are just an unliving object like a table or chair.

I have no ****ing idea what you're talking about, so I'll give a general responce:

Genuine faith in God produces good works. It is the combination of faith and faith-generated works that get you into Heaven.

The only unforgiveable sin is not accepting Jesus in your heart, says the Bible.

well. its mostly possible that you believe in heaven and it being an ultimate paradise, and believe in it so strongly because you love God and accept Jesus as your savior, therefore, you know that you will be joining them in heaven after life.

What difference does it make? If 2 cats were stuck in 2 different trees and two people next to each tree. One wanted to be rewarded and both cats reached the ground safely by their help. Would this affect both cats safety?

But what if a person does it for the cat and the other person does it to be seen by the girl next door.

Your analogy is incorrect. Why continue it?

LJS9502_basic

It doesn't . It's just like I know a guy who is super religious and all but is not that nice but there is another person who is not religious yet makes pretty much everyone happy.

You're judging them then. Not supposed to do that. No one knows what's in the heart of another.

But God wants us to join him in heaven. Is it really so terrible to try to live in the image of Jesus Christ because you want to sit at his side one day? I don't think so in the least.

The correct answer is.....one must live UNSELFISHLY...to achieve Heaven. So as I stated...the analogy is incorrect.

"Judge, and you will be judged. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."

Of all the guidelines in the Bible, that one is the easiest to make sense of and live by IMO (not counting obvious ones like do not kill)

There is nothing wrong with your opinion. Its actually quite valid and a satisfactory answer for both science and religion.

Thats a contradictory thought. You must accept Jesus Christ as your savior to get into heaven. Just being a good person isn't enough. Why would an Atheist want to get into heaven?

Yes, but if one is acting unselfishly only because he desires an immortal reward, then that is a selfish act. You see the paradox? The original poster is arguing that religious people who act for heavenly rewards rather than inherent goodness are selfish. And is some sense, he is right.
