Just a little story for all you glasses wearers out there.

I had phakic lens implant (permenant contact lense) surgery 4 months ago now and am extremely happy with the results.

Ive worn glasss all my life (im 21) and last August i felt that i really didnt want to be tied down by them anymore so i went for a consultation about laser surgery.

After my consultation i was told that my eyes are too bad for laser surgery and that contact lens implants were the only way for me. My prescription is -19 in my left eye and -18 in my right eye, which is extremely bad.

So i had my surgery and 4 months later my vision is perfect! i have 20/20 vision in each eye now and im free to do more things without worrying about my glasses getting broken or lost, it's fantastic!

So yeah anyway, if your fed up of wearing glasses as i was then go for it! there really isnt anything to worry about other than the cost, but for a lifetime without having to wear glasses anymore it's more than worth it.

THE END

I don't mind wearing glasses and without them, my nickname would be no more. I'd like some new ones though; the ones I have now are old.

You assume everyone who wears glasses is sick of them, or feels the same as you did :| Besides, I'd rather not get implants in my eyes. Chances are it'll **** me over in the end somehow.

Thanks for the input but wearing glasses doesn't really bother me and I would much rather use the money on something else.

Thats by far the main reason i did it.

Sorry if it seemed like i assumed everyone hates their glasses, i wasnt implying that at all.

I know how annoying glasses can be at times when you constantly have to wear them:

Swimming in the sea/pools with glasses is hard and could damage them.

Even having a shower without your glasses can be difficult with not being able to see properly.

At gig/festivals you have to be careful not to get them knocked off because again, they'll get broken and you'll be practically blind again.

There are just so many small advantages i have now that i don't wear them anymore.

I'm getting Lazik surgery at 24, that way my eyes will stop "changing" and I will only have to do it once.

For now, I'll just have to live with disposable contacts and glasses. I still hate them.

I don't have any problem with contacts, but I guess I could save some money if I got the surgery... but I also kind like being able to wear glasses when I want -- they've got a chic-ness to them that you just can't get from any other accessory.

That's what I am worried about when it comes to it. I've heard about it happen before, and just hearing it that once, even though there are thousands more successful operations, it still gives you that doubt. I would love to have rid of my glasses though...

My vision isn't bad enough yet to warrant any type of surgery, but I wear contacts 95% of the time. Otherwise, I use my glasses before I go to bed so I'm not groping around like an idiot. However if in the future my vision gets really bad, I might consider laser surgery or implants like you.

My dad doesnt have the right "type of eyes" to get LASIC either. How bad does your prescription have to be? He is only a little worse than me (I wear contacts and my prescription is like -2.5 and -2.75. So, he's probably a 3 or so. How bad does it have to be?

No no and no, with any kind of surgery theres a chance of something going wrong, but laser surgery is a worldwide thing nowdays.

The only way of it causing you to go blind is if the surgeon decides it would be funny to turn the laser up and burn the hell out of your eyeballs (and how likely is that?)

It literally take a few seconds per eye and it's all over. The recovery time is around 1 day and you'll have your vision, then after around a month everything has settled down and you'll have perfect vision.

I think laser/lasic can go up to around -12 possibly less.

My mum ws -7 and -8 and she had the Wavefront Lasic surgery

That is the first time I heard of phakic lens implanets. Thats sorta neat. At the moment I wear Focus Night & Day. These ones I can wear for 30 days straight, not having to take them out even once, including while I sleep. After insurance, I pay about $150 a year.

I'm probably going to get laser eye surgery next year though. I would have gotten it this year, but I forget to sign up for FSA (Flex Saving Account), so I figure I wait till then to save about 25%. I think the surgury is about $4k, roughly $3k out of pocket, if I use FSA.

BTW, my eye sight is between -3.75 and -4.00, both eyes.

Do you have to wear glasses?

A lot of people asked me what the point was and that my life wouldnt be that much different without them, but it's just so many small things that make the difference and people that havent had the wear glasses all their life wouldnt understand (no offence)
