If you were an infantry soldier in WW2, just a private or PFC or Lance corporal, what of these classes do you think you'd be best at or prefer? I'd be a RIFLEMEN! (Note ALL soldiers have Colt 45 pistols as back up guns!) These are made up, but entirely based on realism.
A Riflemen, issued with an M1 Garand rifle , basically most infantry soldiers are this, and they carry out the fight and do a bit of everything, they are the main guys!
A light assault gunner, issued with a 20 shot Thompson SMG, meant to fight up close in bunkers and houses and trenches.
A standard assault gunner, issued with a 30 shot Thompson SMG and are in between a light gunner and heavy gunner.
A heavy assault gunner, issued with a 50 shot drum fed Thompson SMG. Meant to be a mobile assault platform, quicker than a 30 cal but still a SMG.
A submachine gunner, issued with a Grease gun (Doesn't shoot grease, its kinda like a 30 shot Thompson.) and fights at medium range.
A support machine gunner, issued with a BAR and is charged with quick squad support.
A heavy machine gunner, issued with a 30 cal machine gun and charged with taking position and giving heavy covering fire and warding off open assaults.
An assist riflemen, issued with a shotgun and charged with clearing out close quarters.
A support riflemen, issued with a an M1a1 carbine and is charged with fighting in medium range combat and close range.
A sniper, issued with a springfield scoped rifle and is charged with advancing ahead of the battalion lines when not in combat and sniping enemy soldiers and other snipers, in combat he finds a good defensive position and snipes enemy troops in battle.
An anti tank personel, is issued with a magnum pistol and a bazooka rocket launcher and stays on the defensive lines and looks for tanks and such to blow up, and can hold his own in close quarters combat with his magnum.
A combat engineer, is issued a Sten SMG and dynamite and explosives etc and is charged with basically, blowing stuff up, since he's only in an infantry unit he doesn't build bridges or anything, just small entrenchments.
An Artillery airstrike coordinator is issued a 6 shot revolver and has a radio and binoculars to call in air and artillery strikes, he stays behind the defensive line.
A Medic is issued a Webley pistol and medical supplys and is charged with taking care of the wounded until they are taken to a field hospital, Medics are usually not supposed to fight but Germans and Japs don't care about the Geneva convention so just in case.
So what would you be? Like I said this is only in the infantry and you can't be an NCO or CO (Who choose their own weapons.).
And again I'd definatly be a RIFLEMEN! But I come close to a sniper and support rifleman.
