Obviously the easy answer is whatever investment will pay out the most, but specifically if you were large and in charge what would you want to see the country invest it right now? I bring this up because it really seems that people are acting like all spending is bad, when in fact some spending can be a good thing.

Personally I would push for alternative energy and faster internet/neutrality. I'm a tech guy so those things are interesting to me.

what would you push for?

On average, in my country three schools are closed daily and a new church is finished every two days.

I'd like to fix that.

I'd put nanotechnology in state control, put money into it, and distribute the final product for free.

Technological advancements for states and cities: Like a replacement for nuclear reactors and electric dams.

Transportation improvements. New types of automobiles. Like, new engines that use different energy sources.

Art and culture: High morale is a must for a society to succeed.

Military improvements: More versatile manned vehicles. Like bipedal tanks. Those could be commercialized for the civilian sector later on.

Good television shows. You know the TV business is declining when you don't have two shows to watch every day of the week.

Alternative energy, space travel, healthcare, education. But if I sat down and looked at the problems of the country, I'd probably realise that the current way of doing things is well thought out considering all the facts.

I would ruin the country by implimenting forced religion, where they'd all worship me. Then we would create new spaceships that would allow us to colonize the moon, and we would rebuild there. 8)

things that made out country function...if there is research to be had that would actually be an investment...private business would invest in that area in an attempt to corner the market......the govt doesn;t need to "invest" in anything.....just keep taxes low....break monopolies...and stop welfare....regular and coorperate....

sure if you're simple enough not to see who the money goes to...jsut wait to see where the money gets "invested" if it actually comes to pass....doesnt; matter which party is in the Whitehouse...it'll go to the biggest donors....not to where it most makes sense.....

I'd cut 90% of the trillion dollars a year we are spending on the military. I'd also stop giving money to the most profitable companies in the nation. I'd cut out the tax breaks for the top earning people/corporations in the nation. I'd do a major reform of education and healthcare, and put major funding into each, as well as increase funding for NASA.

1. Education - Specifically K-12. We keep falling back in the pack. A strong education foundations builds a better foundation for the future of the country.

2. Healthcare - Specifically lawsuit reform and pharmaceutical reform, so hospitals don't have to buy ridiculously expensive insurance to cover every person who sues for millions just because they got an extra stitch and eliminating drug patent laws so that generics can help drive prices to competitive levels. Also eliminate laws about buying across the border to once again increase competition. It will drive down costs thus reducing the cost of medicare and medicade also reducing the prices of private insurance for individuals and employers.

3. Electrical grid redone - Ours it very outdated and inefficient. Also eliminate coal plants and replace with nuclear as it is the most efficient energy form we can produce on massive levels without massive costs.

4. Bridge and road infrastructure - Should have been done a long time ago.

5. Reduce military budget and reinvest some of that into NASA/college research grants - NASA/colleges are where some of our biggest technological and medical advancements come from. Force them to start on renewable energy.

6. Massive garbage reduction - Go through landfills and start pulling crap that can be recycled and recycle it. Things that cannot be recycled/reused need to be burned.

7. Tree farms - We need to start planting trees so that we can at least match our consumption. It will also help eliminate the CO2 building in our atmosphere.

8. Water desalination - The massive aquifer in the Midwest is going to run out and that is were most drinking water in the united states in gathered from. We need to prepare for when it is gone so that we can get water that is still safe.

9. Complete government overhaul - The budget and every bill needs to be dissected line by line to eliminate waste, special interest spending, and just plain nonsense that was passed in a different time that no longer applies today.

I would call the oil executives into the White House, and tell them if they want tax breaks to continue, then they have to go and reopen every single oil well (on land in TX and OK) that they capped years ago due to "not profitable enough for refining".

Those wells are still pressurized and have crude.

In addition, there are > 27,000 capped wells in the Gulf of Mexico. I would tell them to reopen all that are in shallow water.

Increase taxes on the true rich people, not this 250k bs obama wants to do.

Cut military spending and increase education spending.

Scrap unconditional welfare and invest in more homeless shelters that also provide training in various skills for various levels of education.

Restructure healthcare so those who can afford private healthcare don't have to watch their premiums go up and those who cannot can enjoy what the government provides, if this means more cuts from the military sector then so be it.

Increased funding for technology and medical research centers.

Way better education. I see a lot of schools in Malaysia which have facilities that look like they came from 20 years ago. I'd also stop wasting taxpayer money on useless waste like mosques/other religious constructs and I'd try and improve the transport and communications infrastructure in this country. Investing in nuclear power also seems like a good choice, although I don't know how much cash we'd have to pour into that before we get good returns.

Transport infrustructure is one of the most important issues in this country right now.

I would invest in a fast-rail network across the eastern seaboard of Australia. I would have two lines:

  • Brisbane-Sydney: Brisbane Central, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Newcastle, Central Coast, Hornsby, Sydney Central
  • Melbourne-Sydney: Geelong, Melbourne Central, Albury, Canberra, Goulbourne, Campbelltown, Sydney Central

Then each of the three major cities would have a totally revamped rail network. Get a network so that a cut-off switch at one station cannot cause a stoppage of the entire rail network for heavens sake ...

Ultra-speed internet services, reduce the automobile import duty tax that actually keep protecting the local car manufacture and also keeping local car manufactures produces horrible cars, destroying unwanted taxes, changing the school education system from exam-oriented education into holistic or taking the university education system as a model for improving the education system. Exam-based education is ultimately horrible and there would be more robots that only understand about exams!

I would push for investments in education, alternative fuels, alternative energy, invest more in nuclear power, and all of this would be paid for by cutting the defense budget in half. Most importantly, I would push for the complete overhaul of our electricity grid, especially on the east coast. Take all power lines and move them underground, and repair any existing underground power grids.
