But not for being illegal, but wreckless conduct, obstructing the street and obstructing law enforcement. Young Illegal Immigrants Arrested at Immigration Bill Protest Six arrested, some wearing caps and gowns has the details in both the article and video. The irony is that those arrested at the protest could be deported now, especially that they have been arrested. The illegals were protesting a slightly watered down GA House Bill 87 that goes into effect this Friday, the 1st.

A federal judge recently ruled that two provisions cannot be used, even though the Feds already allow police jurisdictions to do so with one of them. Federal Judge Blocks Parts of Ga. Immigration Law has the details on the provisions of:

Penalize people who transport or harbor illegal immigrants, and

Authorize officers to verify immigration status of someone who can't provide proper I.D.HB 87

that were blocked.

Thoughts?

That's rich. Illegal immigrants protesting a immigration bill.

Glad more measures are being taken. This is a serious problem in this country.

yeah but the liberals will do what they always do and try to make the illegals out to be some kind of victims.

How much nerve do you have to have to protest an illegal immigration bill when not only are you not a citizen, but you are an illegal immigrant.

"Authorize officers to verify immigration status of someone who can't provide proper I.D." Nope, I still can't see the difference between this and the nazi checking if someone was a jew.

Not really. It's not like that at all. Checking on immigrant status and deporting illegals after a crime is the equivalent of a home owner throwing a house party and somebody who was uninvited breaks something and he tells him to leave. Illegal's aren't invited to the United States house party. Especially after they break our fine china.

The way I read that, it means that if you can't provide identification, like a driver's license, passport, or any other kind of ID that people are expected to carry, then they can check on the person to find out if they're here illegally. I'd expect nothing different if, say, I went to England but couldn't produce any ID if I ran afoul of the law.

Illegal immigrants knowing they're illegal and then doing something stupid to get themselves arrested. Can't say I feel sorry for them.

You do realize they don't check after a crime, right? The law allows them to check immigration status anytime they want.

No, if the police force thinks X person is an immigrant, they're allowed to ask for an ID. Just like the Nazi looked for Jews.

That law seems kind of necessary when illegal immigration runs rampant in the south. I know it sounds extreme, but we have a serious problem.

A lot of people want open immigration. They forget our country is already suffering from some major economic problems and the working class is already fighting over what resources are left as we change to a pure service nation and outsource most of our industry. Opening immigration will only make this burden worse and strain our funds as we continue to expand our social spending. An endless cycle of pure economic fail continues with that mentality.

No one is saying they don't feel sorry for their situation back in their country, but the law is the law. they are illegally here and they need to go back where they came from. Having a bunch of low wage workers sneak into the country every day will hurt the economy almost to the point of no return if we don't do something about it soon. Allowing illegal immigrants into the U.S. is also a big **** you to the thousands of immigrants who work hard to get into this country legally.

And do you really agree with this law? We're on the year 2011, this laws I would accept from times when it was normal to be racist and xenophobic, there's no way to stop illegal immigration, there never was, only way to fix this is to make it easier for people to get here legally and to help them get a good start, this way you can create a nice balance. And I doubt many legal immigrants come to America without a stable job and a nice house, mainly because it's not possible to get into America legally without any of those if you plan on living and working in America, of course.

It is quite hard, I'm afraid: To become a citizen, or to be naturalized, a person must meet certain requirements: Be at least 18 years old. Have lived in the U.S. as a legal resident for at least 5 years. Be of good moral character and loyal to the U.S. Be able to read, write, speak and understand basic English. Have basic knowledge and understanding of the history, government structure and the Constitution of the U.S. Be willing to take an oath of allegiance to the U.S.

Yes, I do agree with this law. If we let everyone who wanted to come here in, then we would have way too many people and the U.S. economy would go under. the government could not withstand such a large population growth.

Section 287(g), Immigration and Nationality Act; Delegation of Immigration Authority already allows for corrections and police departments to check immigration status through ICE since 1996. This program is used widely across the US and extensively in the Metro Atlanta area due to the large illegal immigrant population. The federal judge who blocked that provision of the law apparently does not know that the federal government already allows this.

Criminal Alien Program (CAP)
Under current MOAs, 287(g) participants in Arizona , California , and North Carolina currently ensure that criminal aliens incarcerated within federal, state and local facilities are not released into the community upon completion of their sentences. ICE is working to expand 287(g) authority to local and county correctional
facilities that are not operational within normal ICE jurisdictions. The expansion of the 287(g) program into smaller county and local correctional facilities will act as a force multiplier for CAP and have a positive impact on this important program.Sec 287g Delegation Of Immigration Authority

This has expanded to many jurisdictions too.

But all this law does is harbor xenophobia and racism, what good comes from deporting 2 or 3 illegal immigrants if they're going to come back as soon as they're deported? Because they will come back, and with more immigrants going into the country everyday, this law is pointless and they should look for alternatives to the problem.

This law is not the answer.

My understanding is that the path to legal residency and citizenship in this country can be a long and expensive process. I'd be in favor of reforming the laws to make it easier to reside here legally for those who wish to do so. I also favor cracking down on the people and business who employ illegals. The reason people hire illegals is because it's quite profitable to do so. Make it unprofitable. Once the demand for illegal labor dries up than so will illegal immigration.

That's one step.

Another is to remember where illegal immigrants come from. Some do sneak in through the desert, but most enter the country legally (on student visa, vacation temporary work visa, etc.) and then over stay their welcome.

I guess what I'm saying is, that fence they're trying to build is expensive and useless.

Do you know what Sec 287 g Delegation Of Immigration Authority is? It's a federal law that already allows for the check of immigrant status. See my above post to read said law.

if youre going to run a welfare state you must have closed borders and extremely harsh immigration law, i would rather not live in a welfare state and have open boarders like the us use to have but i cannot change what we are.

I guess there is not much difference, except for the arm bands, violence, genocide, and the holocaust, other than that exactly the same.

Illegal immigrants in the UK will be told to stop working, will be moved into a flat free of charge, and be given state benefits, all you've got to do is 'lose' your passport.

HAHAHA sorry

I appreciate the hard work illegal immigrants do, but it is a pretty big problem in California.

I dont know how I feel; Mexicans are a lot of fun to work with, and I like cheap produce...but there also a lot of them and they dontpay taxes and stuff, not to mention theyre breaking the law.
