illegal immigrants = destroying the country

Once again, the DREAM act is up for vote in the senate.

Not familiar? It's just the proposition that allows illegals under age 19 to become citizens, and once they are citizens they can apply for their parents to become legal also. That's all.

Now I know you're probably saying, "Whats the big deal huh? This country was founded on immigration. Doesn't the Statue of Liberty say Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free?"

Well that statue also says "Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Golden DOOR. Which implies that there is a doorway into this country. A CORRECT way to get in.

It's time we started making people come in the correct way (like they did in Ellis Island) and start kicking out people who don't.

Well just think. If they make becoming a citizen easier then instead of having non-taxpaying immigrants we will have tax paying immigrants. There is no way we can stop them from coming in so by making it easier to become a citizen we remove a lot of the problems like getting paid under the table and not paying taxes. I do think that you should have to pass a literacy test though.

Providing illegal immigrants an opportunity to obtain citizenship is the only way they'll voluntarily reveal themselves.

I get what you mean. They do everything cheaper and they do take jobs away. They shouldnt be made citizensif they come in illegally even if they are under 19.freshgman

Also.. they should get deported for certain felonies, even if they are citizens. I don't think it's fair if they become legal and then start doing crazy ****.

What a silly thing to say. Small businesses are much more likely to sidestep labor laws than large corporate operations.

Well...yes but this has happened all throught history andjust because the settlers took the land by force doesn't mean they should give it away without a fight....there's a reason why they wanted the land to begin with.

Well of course not everyone pays taxes but would you rather have none of the immigrants paying taxes or most of them. If what you say is true and no one is hunting them down then don't you think that is OUR problem and not the immigrants problem. Perhaps we should get tougher on taxes too. Their are many problems with our country, and to not let other people in becasue of our problems is unfair and unjust.

Well of course not everyone pays taxes but would you rather have none of the immigrants paying taxes or most of them. If what you say is true and no one is hunting them down then don't you think that is OUR problem and not the immigrants problem. Perhaps we should get tougher on taxes too. If illegal immigrants become legal...then they by law have to make what US citizens make for wages...add in the taxes the employer would now have to pay as well....and they lose their benefit as a workforce. It will probably create more unemployed people....which means more tax dollars toward assistance.

In that case, I agree with you. If labor laws were enforced and businesses stopped hiring from an illegal pool of workers, there'd be less incentive for people to enter the country outside of proper channels.

Neither. The government needs to get aggressive with those that hire illegal immigrants. That would actually solve the problem. If they want to speed up the time it takes to become legal...that is fine with me. But you can't reward criminals...it sets a bad precedent.

Umm.. American's jobs? Legal Americans. People will higher illegals because they work for less than minimum wage. Immigrants also don't pay taxes. There is no real record of them being here.

I don't see how people can defend people who enter this country illegally and leach off the system. It makes no sense.

Anyone who moves to the US, legally or illegally is fine by me if they work, contribute to society and are lawful and respectful.

The jerks who come around, don't learn English as a common language, talk terrorist **** and other stuff claiming free speech aren't integrating into the society. The US is a melting pot, and we should welcome people, unlike the rest of the world. Being so open and sadly... willing to pay people who move here welfare and other government stipends when hard working natural and immigrant CITIZENS who pay taxes and contribute suffer minimum wage with no benefits.

It's not quite one sided, but the lazy immigrant freeloaders and people who buy 7 11s, pay no taxes for 5 years or whatever and sell them to their cousins is just BS.

Reform is due, and selective border crossing is in order, but let's not get xenophobic here like certain other countries, I.E. rest of the world.
