According to cultural barometer Teen Vogue, a gay best friend is the current must-have accessory for all "it" girls. I am thrilled to have risen to level of a handbag or shoes; perhaps I can find some celebutante to carry me around in her purse even! Out of curiosity, does anyone else find the notion of having this sort of criteria for a friend dehumanizing in the same vein as the magical negro?
Theres always the role of the gay guy who is a friend of a straight guy without the straight guy knowing his firend is gay and his gay friend secretly wants him. :P
In a similar vein, my neighborhood gay bar where I hang out several times a month ends up having bachelorette parties stop by. With a small handful of exceptions, they tend to be super obnoxious and expect all the guys there to be "Will" to their "Grace" and are utterly confused when we don't want to screech about how great their hair is or how lucky their fiancees are.

oh look another stupid fad. Seriously how ridiculous this one can get. I love when people come up with stupid things and start glorify them. You know that the complete opposite can happen? just like a guy should not have feelings for another guy but it just happens and this guy finds out that he is gay the same thing can happen here and the GBF would find out that he is actually heterosexual and has feelings for his female friend? you see what I did there?
Yeah, I've been noticing this among some girls for a while. It's a bit obnoxious, really. In my 'adult' life, I've pretty much always had several gay friends at any given time. I do in fact have a gay best friend and I do enjoy our type of friendship, but I didn't seek him out with that purpose. I haven't done that with any of my friends.
