Hey dudes, so I require your opinions.

I'm 16 years old, just starting life, grew out my hair real long about two years ago and ever since August, it has started balding VERY rapidly. It comes out in huge clumps whenever I comb, and its just kinda depressing.

But now Im just sick of my hair, it just feels so empty that it needs to go. However, cutting off all of this hair will be a HUGE deal, at school, at home, and everywhere else. I've always been that dude with the long hair, and I mean I'm not quite up for all the drama in the next month of "OMG! YOUR HAIR! WHY DID YOU CUT IT?!"

I'm also in a local death metal band, and we all have long hair....you get the deal.

I'm sure you guys understand...ugh. haha.

So I'm wondering if I would even look decent with short hair now....here are some pictures of my situation. I will admit that I am a bit self-conscious of it. My hairline has receded sooo far, and I have a huge head....what do you think?

Thanks.

It's okay. Devin Townsend is one of the coolest people alive and he's bald with long hair.

Is balding in your family? You may be balding simply because you're hair can't take being long. Maybe you could cut it short and dye it black. Give it a messed up look with lay-down spikes. I think that would still fit in a band. I had shoulder length hair about a year ago. I cut it off without telling anybody. The reactions get annoying, but sometimes are flattering. Then people stop giving a ****.

I have super thin hair (but a lot of it) and it comes out in clumps every time I wash or brush. When it gets to that point it usually means it's too thick and heavy, so I need to get it cut and layered again. I'm sure it's not very metal to have layers in your hair, but I think you'd look fine if you cut it short. If your hair can't take being really long it'll end up just falling out anyway, so if you don't want to cut it short right away, just trim it until the fallout slows.

You'd look fine with short hair.

I've seen plenty of short haired/bald members of metal bands and they fit in just fine. It may be the metal styIe and good for headbanging, but it isn't a requirement.

And people will definitely have reactions to it, but they'll quickly stop caring about it as they get used to it.

Yes, I've done that research, and all of the fathers/grandfathers/their fathers in my family are bald XD Its inevitable. I'm actually thinking about cutting it short enough for spikes, maybe an inch long. And then dying it black. And of course, growing out my beard....I just shaved today in these pictures. haha. But I like your suggestion. Thanks for the input, bro. And how short did you cut it? XD

You could try shaving it all off, a bald head is almost as metal as long hair.

Whatever you do don't try too hard to hide it, in reality most guys lose their hair and the worst thing you can do is desperately try and cover it up when it's not fooling anyone.

Oh, dude, I also have long hair. I was forced to cut it when I went to Juvie, but now it's long again, so I can kinda relate.

Try eating almonds and other nuts, as they have nutrients that hair needs.
Do not comb your hair if it's wet, and comb softly when you do.
If you use conditioners, use them sparingly.
Blend peppers and tomatos andinsert the blend in your shampoo, It burns like hell, but it should help.
Hair shed is completely normal, but extreme hair loss can be a warning of health problems, such as diabetes.

That's all I got...

just shave it all off. it won't look like you're balding, plus a shaved head can still be metal as ****. just be like scott ian, grow out your beard.

Ah I'm fine with layers, that and trimming it a bit shorter are great suggestions. Thank you. I actually will take that into consideration, like maybe an inch or so at a time until it seems to slow. But I know I will go bald, so I'll see what happens.

Oh wow, if I had to do that I would probably just keep it short XD I doubt its a health problem, I take great care of myself, I stay in top condition for metal drumming, I run, lift weights, etc. And thats not a history in my family. But thanks man.

Thanks. I think the short hair makes me look more my age. I was 22 in the first picture and 23 in the second. It doesn't get in the way anymore. I don't go through shampoo as much. I never have to comb it. Nobody sticks crap in it. A pretty major improvement I say. The only downside is my neck is freezing.

If the baldness gets worse, then I say shave it all off. Then you'll never have to buy hair products again. Don't be one of those people that has a bald top and hair in the back of the head.

Haha, yeah you did look alot more your age. You look around 18 in the first picture haha. Yeah, I agree, the bald eagle isn't exactly my style xD and my hair does just get annoying sometimes. I must say, I am inspired by your story :P Thanks dude. Not having to worry about shampoo/conditioner would be so nice....and considering I have to be at school at 7:30, that would cut alot of time out of my routine in the morning....

Maybe you need more protein and vitamins.

I take all that each day and my hair grows like 2 inches a month. More than average. The sucky thing is that my is very thick so growing it out becomes a hassle.

What shampoo brand are you using? I know some that may cause balding. 16 seems pretty young. :? You should get a thyroid check.

I wouldn't worry much, becoming bald means you are becoming a man early. Just look at Omni-Slash, a full grown, sexy man.

Yup, started with me when I was sixteen too. I already had thin hair and it just kept thinning and receding in the front.

It sucks. But the best thing you can do is try not to get too conscious about it. Just cut it and you'll look fine. You could try rogaine too. I've had some luck with that

I think you'd look good with a buzz cut(if that's how short you're thinking). But maybe your hair can't handle being so long. Try eating healthier and stuff like that. Also try taking Biotin(it's a vitamin that helps hair and nail growth)

Well I mean I've always been like that, I was growing a beard in 7th-8th grade, not full-blown but still. XD I don't think its vitamins or thyroids. I take multivitamins and I eat very well. I use Suave Professionals volumizing....its just whatever I happen to have in my bathroom at the time :P hahaha, of course. What a sexy man.... (I'm straight....) :|

Thursday I'm going to take several inches off of it. I think I'll just take it in steps like that, but if I like it I will go for the buzzcut. I can't maintain a clean crew cut. My self conscious can't handle anything too normal X) I'm thinking either buzz cut or short with spikes....

Yeah it does suck. Right when I start enjoying my hair, my body throws a big middle finger in my face and tosses my hair out >.< But yeah, thats whats happening to me too. What scared me is when one day I looked at a picture from above/behind me, and I saw bald head..... I was like "Who is that....WHAT THATS ME?" haha. literally. So I cut it shorter and it helped alot. But now its just getting worse....

If your balding, keep your hair short. The long hair + balding looks is really really bad. I'll have to go short in a couple years because my hairline is receding. For now, it's not noticeable, but it will be in a few years.

If you're sixteen and balding in the pattern that you've already mentioned, then it is most likely male pattern baldness. Especially, with the family history that you've mentioned. There are options, however, and seeing a physician will pretty much be the only way to save your hair. No shampoo, dietary change, hair length, or standing on your head will stop it. Combing your hair when wet, drying it too much, over shampooing, etc. have no effect on hair growth or loss. They only contribute to the fragility of hair causing it to break. If you're noticing hair roots when it comes out, then the follicle is being pushed out and miniaturized.

Recommendations:

1)See a doctor; dermatologist would be preferred, buta physicianyou can trust will be better

2)Get on the medically proven treatment regimen combination of propecia (finasteride), Rogaine (Minoxidili), and Nizoral Shampoo (Ketoconazole). Buy paraben free shampoos, exercise, eat right, feel good about your self, and let what will be...be.

3)If you have a receded hair line and thinning hair, then short hair will be your best option for quite some time. Everything else will likely look silly.

Dont brush/comb it?

I dont brush my hair, I lose way too much already, for me to be able to afford all the hair that comes out when you brush/comb your hair.
Plus, the way I wear my hair benefits from when it gets sort of interwoven, because it gives it more structure it seems.
Anyways, I can understand the balding problem but I don't know really how to help.

Long hair isnt Mandatory in Metal though last I checked, just really popular.
I say don't sweat it if you have to cut it, everyone will get over it, and I don't see you getting ousted from the band because you have your hair short.
You could try finding something you can do with your hair that doesnt require combing first though, before cutting it, and see if that reduces the hairloss.

Definitely. It's better to style your hair around baldness than to try to cover it up and hide it.

[QUOTE="Guppy507"][QUOTE="rawsavon"][QUOTE="THE_BRUTALIZER"] Wow. hahaha. Good comparison. His new haircut is what I'm going for. But it does look alot better.

Good that you are accepting it...better to accept and be confident than look like a fool in denial

Definitely. It's better to style your hair around baldness than to try to cover it up and hide it.

Indeed. I don't deny it at all, it's just the process of what the hell do I do next XD But I'm seriously thinking I'll take it all off on Thursday. It ain't worth the trouble. And thank you, everyone for your input, by the way.

Your pics aren't working for me, and when I try and open them in a new tab it links to gmail.

That sucks man (not something I would wish on any man).

...but you can tell that your hair is thinning bad...IMO it looks bad right now.

You are smiling in your picture with long hair, but not in the one with short hair. Do you miss it?

just shave it all off. it won't look like you're balding, plus a shaved head can still be metal as ****. just be like scott ian, grow out your beard.

needled24-7

speaks the truth, you might look even more badass if you shave everything.

From your photo, personally I think you'd look better with a buzz cut and some type of facial hair than you do now. You don't havea huge head. It just seems that way when you start to bald 'cause you haven't seen yourself w/o hair before.
