Calm down there.

Internet is serious business.

He was getting all bent out of shape for no reason.

He was being proportionally calm in response to your spectacularly judgmental statement, IMO.

OK sorry guys that didnt come out right at all. If i said CURRENT POPULAR MUSIC IN AMERICA IS NOT VERY GREAT would that be better? lol. my apologies.

JSDempsey

Is current popular music from elsewhere great?

Well quality of music is all up to one's opinion, and I personaly like a lot of the rock bands from the UK (placebo, muse....) But this Soulja Boy stuff that plays every day on the radios here, its just bad.

My first post was a little too general. I like some american artists like the kilers, audrye sessions, the whute stripes, incubus, carolina liar, interpol.

Good and bad in every country....

I only listen to metal, which is underrated by the mainstream (and let's keep it that way).MrPraline

yeah we all know what happened last time it was mainstream, prefer not to repeat that

[QUOTE="JSDempsey"]but when i said it sucks, thats the kind of music i was referring to. I guess i never really consider the bands i like to be mainstream.BiancaDK

Music is music =) mainstream or not, it´s personal preferences - just like you said yourself.

Judging music and including the argument of something being mainstream is really besides the point when it comes to the aesthetical quality of it.

Well i was just expressing my opinion on what i considered to be popular music in america today. I know i could have worded it better but whatever. Im just a little aggressive with it because ive gone half insane from being forced to hear the same songs over and over again every day by all the people around me.

Didnt mean any offense to anyone, as a said earlier, there are plenty of good american artists, but they are not appreciated enough for their talent.

They can listen to what they want. I listen to pretty much everything anyway, and can find something I like in all kinds of music, so I'm pretty respectful of peoples music tastes.

well ofcourse they can, doesnt mean i have to like it. I dont see why people get so upset by my opinion on music, it really isnt that important of a subject.

I don´t think anyone got offended, just slightly puzzled as to why you would make such a sweeping generalization. =)

Anyways, good night! =)

Why are there so many metalheads on gamespot? No one here listen to the blackeyed peas?Memberino
Don't worry, I do. :D And, on that note, I don't really care what people listen to. Sometimes I will listen to the music my friends love, it doesn't matter to me. I do like to experiment with other genres.

My God, you still buy your music? Hell, I just surf through Youtube and make playlists and then crank up the speakers. That and its hard to like new things since music has been slowly diminishing and American Idol crapfest hasn't helped much. It doesn't help things when you turn on the radio and all you hear is Lady GaGa .......ughhhhh..

The stuff I listen to is underrated. Check out my myspace (link in sig) for the music I listen to and I can almost guarantee that you haven't heard of most of the bands on my page,

the sad thing is that it is a lot of pop, rap songs. i listen to metal, rock type of music, something that sadly isn't getting so popular anymore. there are only like two radio stations that have this kind of music. the rest of the popular stations are pop, hip-hop, and rap.

actually today the radio is was listening to the guy was talking about not listening to a station. i guess there was a shooting at a club that the radio station goes to every friday and saturday. he is talking about how rap and things only show violence in their music. i actually thought it was pretty cool to hear someone say that. i'm surprised nobody called said some things to the radio.

My favorite bands are Green Day and Metallica. Yes, I listen to pretty much anything. This excludes any poppy crap (Lady GaGa, for ex.) and most rap.

I really listen to just about everything, from hip-hop to bluegrass to house. I like what I like. I have no problems with people who listen to mainstream music (unless they like Daughtry or Nickelback).

thats what I was going to say. Honestly OT is very much about condemning anybody who has different tastes in music as their own. Variety is a good thing people.

Top 40 music is not my cup of tea but I listen to everything from whatever is hot to whatever underground delicacies music elitists love to ramble on about. As far as music I actually buy goes it's mostly rock or hip hop (sub genres of course included) that vary from very popular to "only if you dig a bit deeper" types of bands.

I like the Black Eyed Peas and have 3 of their albums. I'm undecided on Boom Boom Pow though because of this song: "they don't want music, they don't know how to use it, they just want boom boom boom boom" from Monkey Business. I mainly like rock, hip hop and country. Just about all of what I have on itunes is popular but I like other stuff too. I listen to a lot of rock and country on the radio but it's harder to find hip hop because I live in southern Maine and there are ZERO hip hop stations here unless you count hit music which I've been drifting away from.

I find myself listening mostly to lounge/electronic music like The Dining Rooms, ATB, or Massive Attack. I also like Hip Hop a lot lately... Grunge is alright too. Metal sucks.

I'm going to post a link that shows some of what people keep buying from the most over rated artists in the world, I don't know why a hand full of people like me can't aquire music that sounds good and is not the same old repetitive thing. Anyway, what kind of music do you buy, is it mainstream or under rated(90% of my stuff is)stuff?

http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss283/Nikolai_Popov/iTunesscreenshot.jpg

Digital_Ghost

Your kidding right? It honestly disturbs you that a great majority of people can like a single particular song because it sounds good to them that you just so happen not to like. And its because of these irreconcilable differences that you should complain about what they listen to and label thier preferences? I mean come on. The whole idea of subjectivity cannot be THAT foriegn to you.

Same here. I don't care what everyone else listens to. Hell, Nickelback sold millions of records. I'm convinced a band humming Bach while playing banjos can find fans.

Just about everything I like is relatively unpopular. It's not because I'm trying to break away from what other people like...it's just what I like. And if that's what other people listen to, then that's what other people listen to. No need to get upset about it.

I'm disappointed in myself, I listen to the same songs constantly, but I do add one or two new ones to my library just about every week.69ANT69

I'm the same, but I'm not disappointed in myself. I like the music that I listen to and that's all that really matters. :?

idk better songs are always the ones that take more than one listen to appreciate

I go for whats good to me. that just happens to be mainly stuff that is largely unheard of, but i do also enjoy some popular stuff too, like Tears for Fears

i am currently enjoying metal at the moment though. especially ayreon, opeth, dream theater, and others. before that though, i listened to stuff like Massive Attack, Juno Reactor, and other electronic(which i dont like anymore, except for massive attack)
