I'm looking for.. weird, odd, imaginitive movies along the lines of:
Big Fish, The Fall, What Dreams May Come, MirrorMask, and Princess Mononoke. I'd love some suggestions.

One called "GOTHAM" from the 80's -Pretty rare. (Tommy Lee Jones, Virginia Madison). It is NOT BATMAN! Film Noire aka;Private Eye searching for a ghost woman.
"Ladyhawk" Michelle Pfiffer (bad spelling) and Rutger Hauer
"Toys"- Robin Williams and John Cusack's sister-Joan. These aren't real 'freaky' but they are along the lines of What Dreams..
Let The Right One is one of my favorite films and it is pretty imaginitive in how it deals with the vampire genre.Film-Guy
Wow, with the way you praise this movie i'm almost convinced that I should see it.
Now if only I could find a theater that's showing it.

You most definitely should -- me and all my co-workers who saw this all say it is one of the best movies of 2008. Do it now before the U.S. remake comes out and they butcher it. I already have it on DVD -- I'd send it to you but this is my copy :P I'm sure you can find it "In Theatres" somewhere. :)[QUOTE="UnrighteousFury"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"]Let The Right One is one of my favorite films and it is pretty imaginitive in how it deals with the vampire genre.Sajedene

Here are some theaters where it is playing, hopefully one is near you. I know I praise this film alot, heck maybe alot more than I should, but it is one of the few vampire films I have seen where vampires are not cheesy at all. Plus the kids who play the main characters deserve oscars, great actors yet it was their first film apparently. Also it is the only vampire film I know of that doesnt show the fangs ever.Â

Good to see it get some more praise and recognition, it has a 97 percent on rottentomatoes too. Even though I dont care what critics think, that is great for the film and will hopefully give it enough recognition for the oscars to notice. The two kids who played the main character should at least get some kind of award, they were outstanding.Â

I heard it isnt out on DVD until March 2009.Â

I'm guessing its a screener since my co-worker gave it to me. It's exactly like how it was shown in the theatre with the subtitles and everything.[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Sajedene"] You most definitely should -- me and all my co-workers who saw this all say it is one of the best movies of 2008. It's exactly like how it was shown in the theatre with the subtitles and everything.I might get a screening DVD too since I know someone who works for the academy, we usually get films up for nomination though sweden did not submit Let the right one in as their Oscar choice. Shame, they chose a great little film called everlasting moments which while being good is still a bit conventional compared to let the right one in.Â
Thanks for the list Film-Guy. One of those theaters is actually near me. With the way you all are gushing about it, I'll try to make it over there to see it sometime in the next few days.UnrighteousFury
Hope you enjoy it, if you see it let me know what you think of it:P I have seen it a few times actually since I have taken friends to see it. Its not much, but it gives the film some money, shame Twilight makes millions when it is cliche and imo crap yet let the right one in doesnt make much.
Paprika is a pretty imaginative movie. It's one of those movies you might need to see twice to understand. The animation and concept is superb though.Shad0ki11
That film made my head explode the first time I saw it, I am a fan of the director though who also did Perfect blue, Tokyo godfathers, and Millenium actress. I recommend watching all 3 of those films.Â

Oh I know! When I saw the foreign submissions I was like "where the hell is Let the Right One In?!" But even then -- this is going to be a good Oscar season so I am excited.[QUOTE="Shad0ki11"]Paprika is a pretty imaginative movie. It's one of those movies you might need to see twice to understand. Satoshi Kon does a great job. He's one of my favorite directors as well.
After seeing the movies I'd recommend watching his psycho-horror/mystery series Paranoia Agent. Â
